Red Velvet Boutique It’s easy to miss – Elgin Street is perhaps better known for fruit markets than fashion boutiques – but that only helps make Red Velvet one of Ottawa’s best-kept secrets. The emphasis is on Canadian designers, such as Iris and ça va de soi, but they also find space for lines from international brands such as Sinequanone. Elle passe inaperçue – la rue Elgin est plus connue pour ses marchés aux fruits que pour ses boutiques de mode – et c’est sans doute ce qui fait de Red Velvet l’un des secrets les mieux gardés d’Ottawa. Dishes such as grilled scallops with mango salsa and veal cheeks with butternut squash purée leave diners well fed, if a little Absinthe-minded. Malgré son nom, ce restaurant n’est pas consacré à la fameuse boisson hallucinogène.
