The Boat A winning boat… Our vessel of choice is Sir Henri, an Outremer 45 catamaran, winner of the ARC Challenge in 2001.

Outremer Catamarans Outremer specialize in rapid cruising catamarans, with an optimum combination of safety, speed and comfort. Outremer catamarans have exceptional marine qualities - fine lines and reduced air-drag help them progress in light airs. A generous sail area and dagger-boards optimize their performance at all speeds. The stretched hulls provide comfort and security. Outremer demonstrates that by optimizing weight, whilst keeping the services required of a cruising boat, performance and comfort are compatible. In short, these catamarans are designed for fast cruising around the world, in groups or with a small crew.

Meet the team

Hervé Papin, Skipper Hervé has always been an inshore and offshore racer: from 505 dinghies to RORC championships & The Admiral’s Cup. In the Figaro single-handed race, he was first fresher in 1978 and third in 1982. He scored some nice wins in the Half-Ton world championship and was twice winner of the Tour de France à la Voile, as navigator. Currently racing in the very competitive his Melges 24 class circuit, he also returned to singlehanded racing this year, with second place in the Quadrasolo Méditerranée. Hervé likes to set up or to take part in fine sailing projects.

Dominique Cabarroque Dominique has sailed since the age of 18, learning then teaching on dinghies. She has cruised for over 20 years in the English Channel, the Mediterranean & in the Antilles. The only female skipper in the HP sailing club, she is a regular participant in club regattas. As one of the first people in France to take to catamaran cruising, she has skippered many twin-hulled boats. Her ideal boat would be a fast cruising catamaran so as to combine the pleasures of extended ocean sailing whilst teaching scuba diving.

Denis Terrasse Denis has been a keen aviator and glider for over 35 years, with some impressive results in competitions, including winner of the Mountain Gliding World Cup in 1987. Denis discovered sailing in 1995 and finds many similarities with his original passion. He has completed many cruises in the Mediterranean, (Corsica and Sicily) in Britanny, the Grenadine Islands and from Gibraltar to the Canary Islands.

Richard Jessup A longtime mountain climber with twenty-five years of scrambling in the Alps and high altitude expeditions in the Himalayas, Richard turned to sailing in the past few years. “I find the same attraction to the oceans and the mountains and they demand many of the same qualities: self control, clear decision making and, mainly, remaining humble before the beauty, but also the violence, of nature.” He has sailed his Laser and other small boats since youth and has cruised in Florida, the Mediterranean and Brittany.

Michael Whitley Michael started sailing as a child in the UK & has sailed and raced mostly in the USA and France, including: Pacific voyages in Alaska and French Polynesia aboard the 1978 Whitbread winner, Flyer, now named Alaska Eagle. Sicily to France on a Sun-Fast 42 French National Surprise Championships 2002. Besides sailing, Michael spends his time mountain biking and ski mountaineering around the Alps, and also plays the piano. Thankfully he won’t be taking this aboard, for the sake of weight and other crewmembers ears!

Bruno Morel A keen sportsman all his life, (mountaineering, fun board, judo, soccer...), Bruno discovered that sailing captured it all: exciting sensations, competition, a team spirit, travelling and discovering nature. Since then, he takes all opportunities to embark for a cruise or a race. He has sailed for 5 years in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, and joins this adventure with great enthusiasm!
