Chapter 9, lesson 2 NEWTON MAG Yesterday, I had an appointment with Dr Robert Cooper who is a scientist who specializes in robotics. And we talked about the robot he is currently working on: the Cooperbot. If his robot can really do what he says, there will be a Cooperbot in every home in ten years from now. According to him, the Cooperbot will be able to do a lot of things when he is done working on it. And what incredible things will this robot do?

Well, it will cook as soon as Dr Cooper uploads a cooking program to the CPU. It will do the housework, go shopping or take out the trash when Dr Cooper attaches legs to its body. It will speak and hold a conversation as soon as Dr Cooper receives a microchip from Japan. It will also drive a car or ride a bike if Dr Cooper finds a solution to the slow speed of its reflexes. But the most amazing thing about this robot is that it will be completely autonomous when Dr Cooper finishes writing the program he has been working on for months. He says we won’t have to think about charging the robot’s batteries because it will do it on its own.

Dr Cooper will test his robot as soon as it is complete, which should be in a few weeks. And if the tests are conclusive, he will ask banks to finance his project and companies to commercialize his robot. If everything goes well, the Cooperbot will be on the market in about six months from now. We can add that the Cooperbot will help a lot of handicapped people when it is operational. In a nutshell, the Cooperbot really is something to be excited about, but it will cost at least 10,000$ when it is released so we will have to be patient before we can be rid of the household chores.
