I had the pleasure to speak with James Elroy, from the Chicago Bulls after yesterday’s morning practice. In case you haven’t heard of him, he is a rookie who has been injured most of the regular season and whose performance in the playoffs has been outstanding so far. He has scored more than 40 points per game in the first four games against the Boston Celtics and he scored 62 points against the Knicks two days ago. It’s only one point from Michael Jordan’s record. To say that this kid is on fire at the moment is an understatement since he has already broken many records in these playoffs: Bird’s record for field goal percentage, Pippen’s record for the number of steals in a game and he equaled Bryant’s record for the number of points scored in a game. We talked about these records and the players who hold them, but his mind is only set on winning the championship: “the team comes first. I don’t really care about the records. I just wanna win”. And if we take a look at the number of assists he has in the playoffs, we are as amazed as when we look at the number of points he scored. He is only a few assists away from Magic Johnson’s record. He is an unbelievable player, and he is only twenty-one! Whose record can’t he break? Whose record is he going to break first? Michael Jordan’s? Magic Johnson’s? Only future will tell. One thing is sure, we can’t wait for tonight’s game.
