Cambodians to Host Genocide Symposium entitled “The After Math of Day Zero” The International Khmer Assembly will host a Genocide Symposium April 25, 2015 from 1pm to 2:30pm at the IKA Community Center located at 1404 Concordia Avenue, Saint Paul, MN. The sympodium will focus on the definition, symptoms and strategies coping with Genocide syndrome and the effects it has had on individuals and the Cambodian community in general. It is believed that all Cambodians over the age of forty who survived the Cambodian Genocide suffer from the syndrome in varying degrees. The syndrome is believed to be a major obstacle and impediment to social, educational and economic advancement. The syndrome is so severe it is known to have jumped to the second generation of family members. Scott Walker cofounder of the IKA, Chanbo Keo torture victim, genocide servivor and case specialist with Ramsey County Child Protection Services, Hoeun Hach genocide survivor and former mental health case specialist with CUHCC, Community University Health Care Center and Elaine Wynne President of Veterans Resilience Project will speak and conduct a panel discussion on case experiences and obstacles they encounter in dealing with the syndrome. Background on the Cambodia Genocide, definitions, syndrome symptoms and coping strategies will be discussed. Audience participation is encouraged. A reception with food and beverages will follow the symposium. Because of the subject material age discretion is advised. Public is welcome to attend and participate.
