If you have purchased or received Cisco eLab credits for use with our Labs on Demand solu on, or if you have used a reset point during in-class labs, you may need to perform special procedures to ensure your IP Communicator and PSTN IP Phones properly register. Our lab environment uses reset points allowing you to rewind and fast forward throughout various labs in a course. When performing a reset point, the sta c entries in the Cisco Unified Communica ons Manager for IP Communicator devices may change, requiring updates in order to properly register. Note: For students who are comple ng labs within a class environment, note that reset points should only be used under the direc on of your instructor. Most classroom lab environments will never use reset points and therefore will not require you to complete these Appendix A steps.

Please See Appendix A in the eLabs Web Portal When you log in to the Remote Labs web interface at h ps://www.remotelabs.com, you will be presented with a pop-up window containing the lab exercises you are working on. The appendix will be located in the upper naviga on bar inside the pop-up window as seen below:

Lab Procedures Task 1: Log In to the CUCM Administra ve Interface In this task, you will log in to the Administra ve Interface on the CUCM Publisher. Both Student 1 and Student 2 will complete various sec ons of this exercise simultaneously.

Student 1 and Student 2: you should have two records returned, as seen below. In the green callout bubbles below, Student 1 verify the first DNS SRV record. Student 2, verify the second DNS SRV record. The exact order in which the records are presented may vary depending on how many mes this command is executed, this is known as DNS SRV Round Robin and is done automa cally when both records have the same priority.

Note: If the service records are missing, your jabber clients will not be able to use Service Discovery. Ensure that both SRV records are returned. No fy your instructor if these SRV records are not present. Pro Tip: Adding the DNS SRV records in with the same weight and priority creates a DNS Round Robin effect. If you perform the nslookup command mul ple mes, you will no ce the DNS records being presented alternate, thus the round robin. Pro Tip: While a Cisco Jabber Client is on the LAN/WAN, it will resolve DNS using the SRV records entered in this lab, i.e. it will resolve SRV records for _cisco-uds._tcp.globalknowledge.com, however, when the Cisco Jabber client roams outside of the environment (mobile users), then you can add a Cisco Expressway series appliance (Expressway C and E) which allow VPN-less connec vity to external Jabber Clients. This is covered in depth in the CIPTV2 course. The Jabber clients on the outside world would then resolve _collab-edge._tls.globalknowledge.com as the DNS SRV record which would point the Jabber Client to the Expressway E outside Public IP address. In addi on, if you have enabled a WebEx account for your business, it is highly likely WebEx has enabled a third connec on op on for Cisco Jabber on your behalf. If your WebEx Account is enabled for IM&P (Cloud Based Jabber) the Jabber client will issue an HTTP query to a CAS URL for the Cisco WebEx Messenger service. This can be problema c in many installa ons, especially with Cisco Expressway and it is recommended to contact WebEx and have them disable this feature. Student 1 and Student 2: type exit two mes to close the MS DOS prompt. Student 1 and Student 2: on your respec ve desktops, double click the Cisco Jabber for Windows icon.

Student 1 and Student 2: ensure that no previous se ngs are cached in the client by clicking the Gear located in the upper right hand corner of the Cisco Jabber client. Choose File > Reset Cisco Jabber. Accept any warning messages which are presented.

Note: If the Reset Cisco Jabber is greyed out, it means there is no previously cached informa on. In the next lab, you will configure the Cisco Jabber user accounts in CUCM and actually perform a login for Cisco Jabber. Student 1 and Student 2: using the table below, enter the email addresses of both users into the client and click Con nue. Accept any cer ficate warning messages presented.

Note: Cisco Jabber clients will look up DNS Service or SRV records in a very specific order once you have entered a username@domain format and click Con nue. The first record that a Cisco Jabber client will try to locate is the _cisco-uds SRV record. Next, it will find the __collab-edge SRV record. Finally, for legacy clients (pre 9.x), it will look up _cup-login SRV record. Pro Tip: If DNS is properly working and has returned either a _cup-login or _cisco-uds DNS SRV record to the Jabber Client, you will no ce in the next step that the @domain name is stripped off of the user login; this means the Jabber client was able to resolve the SRV record and will contact the Cisco CUCM Server listed as the _cisco-uds SRV record. If you s ll see the FQDN with the @ domain name, Houston you have a problem! Student 1 and Student 2: if the DNS SRV record lookup was successful, you will be presented with a Username and Password box in the Cisco Jabber client. Student 1 and Student 2: one of the more annoying things about Cisco Jabber and our lab solu on is that the Cisco Jabber for Windows client will hide itself or minimize automa cally and the quick start ribbon for Cisco Jabber will hide behind the Citrix Receiver ribbon, both of which are located at the top center of your screen. In order to fix this, you will expose the Cisco Jabber for Windows ribbon drop-down and move it over to the right hand side of your desktops. Student 1 and Student 2: hover over the white Cisco Jabber ribbon located in the top of the screen un l the ribbon is exposed. See the screenshots below:

Student 1 and Student 2: once the ribbon is exposed, drag the ribbon to the upper right hand side of the screen, as seen below. This will move the Jabber Ribbon away from the Citrix Receiver Ribbon which can be problema c!

Student 1 and Student 2: click the Cisco Jabber icon located on the right hand side of the ribbon. This will open Cisco Jabber any me the program may be minimized in the system tray. This bu on is referred to as the Hub window.

Note: The encryp on is ONLY for clients on the LAN/WAN, any Business to Business communica on traversing the Expressway C/E would be unencrypted by default. Student 1 and Student 2: you will no ce a series of icons located near the lower right hand corner of the Jabber IM and Chat window. These icons allow you to send a screenshot or file to someone you are cha ng with. In addi on, you can use Emo cons, as well as change the font used when communica ng. Spend a few minutes examining the various features as seen below:

Note: Feel free to send your partner a few angry faces as the week proceeds, we find that that tends to loosen the mood in class. In addi on, the file share feature in Cisco Jabber for Windows tends to work best with smaller sized files, anything over 1MB in size is best sent via email or shared storage such as Dropbox, or perhaps Microso OneDrive. Student 1 and Student 2: close the IM and Chat window by clicking the X located in the upper right hand corner.
