EPAZ Statistician – Job description CONTEXT: Prevention of mother-‐to-‐child transmission (PMTCT) elimination goals are hampered by low rates of retention and antiretroviral treatment adherence. The Eliminating Pediatric AIDS in Zimbabwe (EPAZ) project is part of the World Health Organisation INSPIRE initiative. EPAZ is assessing whether mother support groups (MSGs) increase rates of retention-‐in-‐care of HIV-‐positive mothers and their exposed infants, increase male participation, and improve other maternal and infant health outcomes. EPAZ is a cluster-‐randomized study involving 30 rural facilities in 2 health districts in Mutare province in eastern Zimbabwe. EPAZ is sponsored by WHO, funded by the Canadian cooperation and coordinated by Family AIDS Caring Trust (FACT), an AIDS Service Organisation based in Mutare. INSERM U1219 is providing scientific and methodological support to EPAZ. STATUS: This is a one-‐year, full time position with the possibility to extend. JOB START DATE: As soon as possible. 1st March 2016 latest. SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience LOCATION: ISPED/INSERM U1219, University of Bordeaux, France. Possible site visits to Zimbabwe. JOB: Performs statistical analysis and assists in interpretation of EPAZ trial data, conducts outcome evaluation. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Advise on the appropriate statistical methods to answer the EPAZ research questions • Conduct quantitative data analysis using descriptive and statistical methodologies • Work with researchers to interpret and refine analyses to answer E4E trial research questions • Work collaboratively on writing scientific papers, writing methods and result sections, preparing tables and figures • Acts as a statistical resource for colleagues on statistical methodology and theory and assists researchers with oral presentations, including making graphics • Maintaining confidentiality in dealing with all matters JOB QUALIFICATIONS: • Masters or PhD in Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, Public Health or Epidemiology with a statistical focus • Experience in analysis and interpretation of medical/health related data such as Epidemiology, Health Services Research or Biostatistics • Experience with HIV health services data (e.g., surveillance systems, electronic health records, and/or patient cohort databases) preferred • Demonstrated experience in preparing analytical reports

Extensive knowledge of statistical software packages (SAS, S-‐plus, SPSS) Knowledge of statistical design and quantitative methods Ability to self-‐motivate Excellent oral and written communication in English, organisational skills, with the ability to work independently within a team environment as well as the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and/or medical terminology preferred
