Just next to the site of the Priory of Saint Aubin. t was in 1976 that a Gournay householder decided to extend his house on the Chemin des Morues, just next to the site of the Priory of Saint Aubin which was founded by Hugues V of Gournay in the year 1200. Digging a trench some 60cm deep he came across some pottery remains. The owner carefully extracted, one by one, about 40 pots, shards and other objects. There was eough to indicate that Saint Aubin had once been the site of a pottery workshop. A pottery research organisation, the Groupe de recherches et d'études de la céramique du Beauvaisis was informed of the discovery and its specialists dated the remains as being from the beginning of the eleventh century.

Further exploration of the site has brought to light pieces of flat tiles (tegulae), potsherds (terra negra) and some coins. The discovery confirms a Gallo-Roman presence at Saint-Aubin, a discovery of some importance according to archaeologists for no other such remains have been recorded between Beauvais and Rouen to this day.
