1-‐year postdoctoral fellowship in ultrasound imaging of bone A 1-‐year post-‐doctoral position is available at University Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC, Paris, France; http://www.upmc.fr/). The researcher will work at the Biomedical Imaging Laboratory (https://www.lib.upmc.fr/). The postdoctoral researcher will join the group DBMS (Determinant of Bone Mechanical Status) which is one of the world’s leading groups for the characterization of the mechanical properties of bones with dynamical methods. The group is composed of 15-‐20 international members including senior researchers, engineers, postdoctoral fellows and PhD and Master students. DBMS has a strong expertise in using ultrasound waves and vibrational methods to characterize bone. The group has recently focused on a new research topic: ultrasound imaging of bone. While current medical ultrasound scanners can only produce images of soft tissues, we aim to develop ultrasound imaging of anatomical sites containing bone. If successful it will broaden the range of clinical uses of ultrasonography, which fails to image bone so far. The situation is highly similar to marine seismic exploration; indeed the investigated medium contains fluid-‐like layers (skin, muscle, marrow) and anisotropic solid layers (bone). The postdoctoral researcher will evaluate whether methods originally developed for seismic imaging are suitable to image an anatomical site containing bone. Challenges include the suppression of multiple reflections and the separation between diffuse and specular reflections. He will implement selected imaging techniques on a fully programmable ultrasound scanner and conduct experiments on volunteers to test and validate them. Qualifications: Applicants with a PhD in seismic imaging or research experience in seismic imaging will be considered. Basic programming skills (Matlab, C++) and writing skills (reports, research articles) are required. Excellent level of English is required. French is not required. Financial conditions follow UPMC postdoctoral grants guidelines, and depend on the experience of the candidate. Information and applications: Candidates are invited to contact Guillaume RENAUD for additional information and to submit their application (including letter of motivation, CV, publication list, manuscript of PhD thesis, and name and contact information of at least two referees). Applications will be considered until the end of March 2017 but prospective candidates should contact Guillaume RENAUD as soon as possible. Contact: Guillaume RENAUD,
