Billy : I don’t know any, Sir. Tibbut, another boy in the class, said: Tibbut : He’s got a hawk, Sir. He’s mad about it. He never goes with anybody now, he just looks after his hawk all the time. He’s crackers with it. Mr F. : Now then Billy, tell me about this hawk. Where did you get it from? B. : Found it. Mr F. : Where? B. : In the wood. It was a young one. Mr F. : And how long have you had it? B. : Since last year. Mr F. : Where do you keep it? B. : In a shed. All the time. Mr F. : It’s cruel to keep it in a shed all the time, it would be happier flying free. B. : But I let it fly every day! Mr F. : And it doesn’t fly away? B. : Of course, it doesn’t fly away. I’ve trained it. Mr F. : Trained it? Was it difficult? B. : Of course it was! I could train Kes only when she was hungry. You’ve got to be very patient with hawks. You’ve got to love them.
