Maintenance Procedure for the Inspection of Oil Filter and Suction Screen

1. Drain engine oil. 2. Remove and examine the oil suction screen for any metallic particles (Reference Figures 1 and 2). Retain any material that may be found for identification and replace screen.

NOTE: Location of the oil suction screen varies by engine model (side or bottom of sump).

3. Remove and cut open oil filter. For full flow spin-on oil filters use the Champion CT-470 tool shown in Figure 3 or an equivalent oil filter cutter. 4. Remove the paper element from the filter and carefully unfold while examining for material trapped in the filter (reference 4 and 5).

5. If examination of the screen or filter indicates any aluminum material, contact a Textron Lycoming technical representative at the factory at (570) 323-6181. Textron Lycoming can assist with the material identification.
