Thales R&T : research work, in collaboration with Institut d’Optique (supervisors A. Brignon, JP Huignard, P. Georges, G. Pauliat, G. Roosen). Realization of a high power multimode fiber amplifier. Challenging technical problems: coupling and guiding high power pump light (300W diode laser). Study and realization of two reshaping systems: – “Self-Referencing Beam Cleanup”: proposal, patent filing and experimental realization in a photorefractive crystal. – Stimulated Brillouin Scattering induced phase conjugation or beam cleanup in a multimode fiber: theoretical, numerical and experimental analysis. “Self-aligned Beam Cleanup Brillouin Cavity” (proposal, patent filing and experimental realization).

– High power fiber systems in continuous wave, pulsed and quasi-continuous wave operation. Double clad fibers, fiber end polishing, fiber cooling. – Photorefractive crystals (Beam cleanup and phase conjugation). “Self-Referencing Beam Cleanup” patented scheme. Computing method for phase detection and feedback. M² evaluation (laser spot quality). – Multimode fibers as phase conjugating mirrors. Graded index and step index fibers. Fiber cleaving. – External and tunable laser cavities. Optically Pumped Semiconductor Lasers Linear, nonlinear and quantum optics, signal processing, electronics. Specifically studied topics: lasers, nonlinear optics, phase conjugation, image processing, semiconductors.

Numerical simulations

Gain simulations in fibers. Formalism and simulations of nonlinear effects in waveguides with propagation modes considerations (Stimulated Brillouin Scattering in waveguides for phase conjugation). Formalism and simulations of cavities with etalon. Optical systems simulations.

Computer science

Excellent grasp of the following computer tools: Maple, Mathematica (symbolic calculus), Matlab (numerical calculus and simulations), LabView (experiments interface and control), OSLO (optical design). Very good programming skills. Languages: Pascal, C, C++, Fortran and Caml
