Between 7 and 21 May 2016, Brigitte Frérot, research scientist in the Université Pierre et Marie CurieCNRSINRAIRD Université Paris DiderotUniversité Paris Est Créteil Val de Marne Institute of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, Paris (IEES) visited Tehran (Iran), having been invited by the Iranian Research Institute of Plant Protection (IRIPP). Her twoweek stay was devoted to work in entomology. During the trip, Brigitte Frérot had the pleasure of meeting different IRIPP managers and particularly its President, Professor Jafar MohagheghNeyshabouri. She also discussed her work with scientists from the Institute, including Arman AvandFaghih and Kazem Mohammadpour, and was received by the Entomological Society of Iran, and its President Aziz Kharrazi Pakdel.
Long-established partnership relationships… These meetings provided an opportunity to give new impetus to longestablished partnership relationships. Arman AvandFaghih completed his PhD thesis in France within the INRAUniversité Pierre et Marie Curie Joint Research Unit for Insect Physiology Signalling and Communication, which now forms part of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Sciences (Joint Research Unit, IEESParis). In 2004, his work on the identification and agronomic application of plant synergists of the pheromone of the Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) 1790 weevil earned him his doctorate from the National Agricultural Institute ParisGrignon (now AgroParisTech). As for Kazem Mohammadpour, his short and regular visits to France in 2012 and 2013 enabled him to collaborate with French teams in studies on the palm weevil,R. ferrugineus. Finally, it was not without emotion that Aziz Kharrazi Pakdel was able to look back with Brigitte Frérot on his thesis devoted to "Ecological and Cytopathological Research on a Protozoonosis of Scarab Beetles due to Nosema melolonthae (Krieg)" which he defended in 1967. He was carrying out his studies in this field in France at that time, at INRA's Station for Biological Control and Biocenosis in VersaillesGrignon, which no longer exists.

… turned towards the future Since then, collaborations between French and Iranian scientists have continued, as testified by several joint international publications or the participation of Brigitte Frérot in the international editorial committee of the journal of the Entomological Society of Iran. Brigitte Frérot also had an opportunity to give a lecture on new advances in chemical ecology to a large audience who were particularly interested in her expertise in this area. Finally, these meetings also enabled both sides to plan new partnerships at the (entomological) crossroads between Europe and Asia; these will combine studies on plants and the training of young scientists through research. Brigitte Frérot and her French and Iranian colleagues are already discussing how this can be achieved.
