How to reach us ? Lille, the capital of Flanders, lies near the border with Belgium. The urban area is one of the biggest in France with more than 1 million inhabitants and also one of the first student cities in France with law, economics, medicine, physics faculties and schools. Lille is one of the most friendly city of France with Flemish architecture, numerous monuments (the "Vieille Bourse", the "Grand Place", numerous churches...) and museums (Palais des Beaux-Arts, Musée de l’Hospice Comtesse, the birthplace of Charles de Gaulle) to visit. The Chemical Ligation Symposium will take place in the Biological Institute of Lille which is situated on the Pasteur Institute of Lille campus. By train The Lille Europe station came into service in May 1994, coming on top of Lille Flandres station which still provides numerous regional rail links. Lille Europe and its high-speed TGV trains receive some 8000 travellers per day and have put Lille 50 minutes from Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle Airport, 5 hours 30 minutes from Marseilles, 3 hours from Lyon, 3 hours 40 minutes from Nantes, 2 hours from London and 38 minutes from Brussels. Extensions to Germany and Holland are planned for after the year 2000. At Lille Europe or Lille Flandres stations, take the metro (in direction of Saint Philibert), exit at "Lille Grand Palais" station. Walk along "boulevard Louis XIV", then take the first street on your left "rue du Professeur Calmette". The Institute is on your left. By road Lille is at the crossroads of the densest motorway network in France (after Paris and its surrounding area) : A1 (Paris), A27 (Brussels), A23 (Valenciennes, Mons, Aix-la-Chapelle), A25 (Dunkirk, London), A22 (Ghent, Antwerp, Amsterdam), A26 (London, Calais, Lyon)... Follow direction "Lille-Centre" and exit n°2 and n°2a (Lille Centre / Lille Grand palais). You arrive on boulevard Louis XIV, keep your left. Turn left at the third traffic-lights "Professeur Calmette" road. The Institute is on your left. By air Summer 1996 saw the opening of a new passenger air terminal whose capacity exceeds a million travellers. Located just ten minutes from the city centre, alongside the A1 motorway and at the crossroads of closely packed communication routes, it links Lille to around twenty French towns such as Brest, Mulhouse, Nice, Toulouse, etc. Flights to Italy, Germany, Spain and England are also provided, as well as those to Morocco, Tunisia, Greece, Senegal, La Reunion, which vary according to the season (charter flights).
