Electrizzante , my 8th album. More electrified than its predecessor, this mediterranean electro jazz album, is performed along with André Minvielle, a Gascon countryman magician of words, accents and voice, with drummer Patrice Héral, a globetrotter living as Gerard Pansanel near the large blue one, and talented specialist of instantaneous special effects, mocking and adept of outrageousness, with brilliant accordionist Lionel Suarez, from Aveyron, and with indispensable Antonio Salis. Since 1984, Gerard Pansanel has made 6 albums with alter ego and brother in sounds, Antonello Salis (Calypso, Cinecittà, Beatles stories, Voices, Nino Rota / Fellini, Navigators) as well as with several fellow-traveller artists such as Enrico Rava (Voices album in 90), Aldo Romano, Paolo Fresu, Furio di Castri, Doudou Gouirand, Michel Marre, Joël Allouche, Michel Bénita… Electrizzante is an album tainted with a particular approach, a very specific culture and sensibility, a personal idea of melody and a very genuine way of living and playing.

Gérard Pansanel Electrizzante Antonello Salis (acc), Patrice Héral (dm, perc, sampling, voc), André Minvielle (voc, "electronics", perc), Lionel Suarez (acc, accordina), Gérard Pansanel (g, sampling) [ Nord Sud / Nocturne ] October 2006

Eighth album of the guitarist, autoproclamed electro-jazz of the suds, here a bubbling recording of energy and inventiveness. For the occasion Gerard Pansanel surrounded itself by its eternal accomplice Antonello Salis who officiates exclusively with the accordion, as well as Patrice Héral, another usual partner of the guitarist and current percussionnist of the ONJ Franck Tortiller. In reinforcement, Andre Minvielle the « vocalchimist » and a second accordion, that of Lionel Suarez. It will have been included/understood: north of the Loire to abstain from! The combination of these five marked musical personalities functions with wonder, in particular thanks to a particularly intelligent construction of album. Long unslung pieces often preceded by an introduction succeed skilfully short interludes more alleviating, and this alternation gets a remarkable atmosphere with the whole of the disc, subtle mixture of proximity, writing of spontaneousness. Proximity because in the spirit, the introductions seem to be recorded between two takes, proposing the essence of the piece to come. Thus, it seems to us to listen to the music of the interior, as if one were accomodated with the centre even band of the merry rogues. It is obvious on the court “As auroras”: short decorated ballade of noises of wavelets; this piece, which follows a “Corridore di spaggia” to the démoniaque swing, really resembles an alarm clock in the tepid paddle of the summer, on a beach, after one night of festival… The writing is also an essential element of the disc; all the compositions (signed or Co-signed by Pansanel) seduce by their

melodies. They are undoubtedly involved in the spirit, that it is the topic acid-jazz of “Electrizzante”, that, nearer to the tango, of “Noches de Cadaquès”, the topic be-bop of “Corridore di spaggia” or finally that, irresistibly involving, of “Calypso”: all these melodies shine by their naturalness, their gaiety and their elegance, and are perfect revealing enthusiasm of the musicians. In addition, arrangements are them also with the honor, benefitting the maximum of the possibilities of the instruments, and in particular the two accordions, which get for the disc an impressive harmonic base. Add to that the scat and the wandering onomatopoeias of Andre Minvielle, more various samples disseminated that and there: the result seems already complete. It would be to forget the last stage, and not the least, building: the improvisation. Without proposing itself, Gerard Pansanel is not the last to be expressed with virtuosity and brilliance, sauntering with ease among the many musical styles of the album and emphasizing various sonorities of his guitars, which they are electric or with nylon strings. But, like one says in the south, side improvisation Salis and Suarez does not leave their share to the colleagues: the presence of the two accordions makes it possible the one to take care of the harmonic part by leaving the free field to the other to launch out in superb flights. With final, therefore, the richness of the composition, improvisations, the pleasure of playing proclamation and extremely communicative make of Electrizzante an album in any successful point, to discover absolutely.
