LDS 3000 Calibration manual

CC 3000

1. CC 3000 1.1 General A calibration check of LDS 3000 can be done using a reference cell arrangement – CC 3000 – containing a suitable gas mix for this purpose. However, there is one exception from this – HF – since this gas is very difficult to contain accurately over longer periods of time. The unit should be used in conjunction with a temperature correction curve which is delivered with each CC 3000.

Note!

The calibration procedure is very complicated and sometimes involves many parameters. Therefore the use of CC 3000 should be restricted to a check of the calibrating status of LDS 3000 – not to perform an actual calibration. When the calibration check is done it is important that the settings on LDS 3000 and the environment parameters are the same in all occasions. If this check shows that the calibration has drifted a recalibration should be done by trained and certified personnel.

1.2 Preparations At the sensor site Disconnect fibre cable (orange) and power cable from the sensor board. Dismount sensor board and detector from the receiver and bring them to the LDS 3000.

At the central unit site Access the interior of LDS 3000 through the door on the back side. Inside CU 3000 you will find three cables spun together and marked “Calibration Cell”. Two of the three cables are already connected to the instrument, namely the single mode fibre and power cable. Disconnect the multi mode fibre (orange) from the fibre receiver (silvery box just below cable intake). Connect the multi mode fibre (orange) from the “Calibration Cell” cable to the fibre receiver. Slide the sensor card into its holder on the calibration cell module and connect the power cable from the DC/DC card. Insert the detector module into the hole on the calibration cell and twist 90° to lock. Connect the “Calibration Cell” cable to the calibration cell - single mode fibre (yellow) to the launcher, green connector on opposite side of detector and multi-mode fibre (orange) to the sensor card. Connect the power cable to the DC/DC card.

Note!

Check polarity before connecting!

1.3 Calibration check on LDS 3000 Go to the Settings menu and read the gas temperature. Go to the corresponding temperature in the temperature correction curve and read the value of A on the y-axis. Note that the room temperature will effect the

reading. To get as accurate reading as possible, measure the room temperature and read off the corresponding line in the graph. Read the measurement path length from the Settings menu. Now calculate the reference gas concentration, Cref A C ref = ---------------------------- , [ppm] path length where the path length is expressed in meters. Now read the measured gas concentration on the instrument, Cinstr. If Cinstr is within two percent of Cref, 0.98 ⋅ C ref < C instr < 1.02 ⋅ C ref the calibration is OK, otherwise the instrument has to be re-calibrated. The calibration procedure is described in the Operators Manual.

Useful relations: °F = 1.8 · °C + 32 mg/Nm3 = ppm · (molecular weight of the gas) / (litres/mole) 1 atm and 0 °C → litres/mole = 22.41 (STP) labelled mg/Nm3 EU in LDS 3000 1 atm and 25 °C → litres/mole = 24.46 labelled mg/Nm3 US in LDS 3000
