For the anecdote… A « coupé en deux » (« cut in two ») is the nickname

of the Wattrelos inhabitants.

T his nickname comes from the last century, where

many inhabitants lived in former stables which doors were made so that horses could get their head out of the stables.

T hese half opened stables doors gave the impression

to people that the new inhabitants were… cut in two !

I n reference to this anecdote, the Damier Club de Wattrelos decided to innovate with a new kind of tournament, involving teams of two, by doubling the time controls and the games per round.
