+ DE 300 JOURS DE SOLEIL PAR AN ENTRE 771 M ET 3 412 M D’ALTITUDE VOUS ÊTES DANS LE JARDIN SUSPENDU DES CIEUX Bienvenue au cœur du Parc National du Mercantour qui doit sa diversité unique à sa situation géographique au carrefour des influences climatiques ligure, alpine, méditerranéenne et provençale. Le contraste des paysages est frappant entre la longue cuvette de Barcelonnette et les vallées suspendues, marchepieds vers les plus hautes cimes de la vallée.

Attention, quelques passages aériens dans les rochers et les éboulis lors de la descente. Bonus temps et jambes, en été le télésiège du Sauze 1700, vous monte jusqu’au départ du vallon de la Goutta (sous réserve d'ouverture. VAL D´ORONAYE / MEYRONNES (hameau de Saint-Ours) • PROMENADE FAMILIALE SUR UN PLATEAU Chargée d’histoire cette boucle vous emmène sur un site de pèlerinage très prisé pendant des siècles. Déjeuner possible à l’auberge de Saint-Ours. Durée : 2 h Niveau : très facile Dénivelé : 150 m Balisage : suivre la direction d’« ouvrage de Saint-Ours Haut » Altitude mini : 1 780 m Altitude maxi : 1 930 m Ouverture : toute l’année Réf : CARTE IGN/TOP 25 N° 3 538 et « Aiguille de Chambeyron - cols de Larche et de Vars ». Ê  Empruntez la route menant au col de Larche (D900). Moins d’un kilomètre après la traversée du village de Meyronnes, prendre à gauche la route qui grimpe au hameau de Saint-Ours. À gauche de la chapelle continuez la route, le parking est au bout. Empruntez alors le chemin de croix, poursuivez la piste en traversant le ravin de la Combe qui s’élève jusqu’au fort haut de Saint-Ours. À vos jumelles, sur le rocher de Saint-Ours, on peut observer des chamois.

VAL D´ORONAYE / LARCHE • LE VALLON DU LAUZANIER AU CŒUR DU PARC NATIONAL DU MERCANTOUR Agréable et accessible, le vallon du Lauzanier est très prisé en été, mieux vaut partir tôt le matin. Possibilité de déjeuner : à l’auberge du Lauzanier, au gîte le Refuge, à l’hôtel Relais d’Italie et au Chalet Germas.

Durée : 3 h 30 Niveau : facile Dénivelé : 350 m Balisage : blanc et rouge (GR5/GR56) Altitude mini : 1 907 m Altitude maxi : 2 284 m Ouverture : de juin à septembre Réf : CARTE IGN/TOP 25 N° 3 538, « Aiguille de Chambeyron - cols de Larche et de Vars » et 3 639 OT « Haute Tinée - Auron » « La vallée de l’Ubaye à pied » circuit N°51. Ê  Depuis le village de Larche (D900 route du col) suivre la route qui part à droite en direction du vallon. Au bout de la route, se garer au parking du Pont Rouge (attention nombre de places limitées) autre option préférer le parking de l’Orrenaye, situé à 1 km du col de Larche. Un sentier le relie au Pont Rouge. Suivre la piste qui remonte le vallon et longe l’Ubayette, elle se transforme en sentier jusqu’au lac du Lauzanier. Interdit aux chiens.

SAINT-PAUL-SUR-UBAYE • TOUR DU PLAN DE PAROUART Possibilité de déjeuner à Maljasset, au refuge Caf de Maljasset. Durée : 2 h 45 Niveau : facile Dénivelé : 250 m Balisage : jaune Altitude mini : 1 901 m Altitude maxi : 2 060 m Ouverture : de juin à octobre Réf : CARTE IGN/TOP 25 N° 3 637 OT « La vallée de l’Ubaye à pied » circuit N° 42. Ê  Depuis Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye, prendre la route en direction de Maurin, arrivé à Maljasset parking à l’entrée du hameau. Traverser Maljasset et admirer ses maisons en pierres et toits de lauzes, prendre un sentier juste à gauche derrière l’église de Maurin jusqu’à Combe Brémond, poursuivre le sentier rive droite de l’Ubaye qui s’élève légèrement et atteint Plan de Parouart. Ne pas s’engager par temps de pluie.

UVERNET-FOURS • LES LACS DE LA PETITE CAYOLLE Petite randonnée agréable et accessible pour toute la famille. Ce parcours va vous permettre de découvrir les lacs dont celui de la petite Cayolle et des Garrets et, avec de la chance faire découvrir à vos enfants les quelques marmottes, chamois et même bouquetins qui apprécient l’endroit. Possibilité de déjeuner au refuge. Sympa : au refuge de la Cayolle expositions organisées par le Parc National du Mercantour. Durée : 2 h 30 Niveau : moyen Dénivelé : 362 m Balisage : blanc et rouge Altitude mini : 2 266 m Altitude maxi : 2 678 m Ouverture : de juin à octobre Réf : CARTE IGN N° 3 540 ou 3 540 OT « La vallée de l’Ubaye à pied » circuit N°14. Ê  Suivre la D902 au départ de Barcelonnette en direction de Pra Loup, suivre les gorges du Bachelard, le col de la Cayolle se trouve juste après le village de Bayasse. - SIGNALÉTIQUE PATRIMONIALE LA BRÉOLE  Cette promenade culturelle est jalonnée par 13 lutrins repartis sur des points remarquables du village suivant un circuit numéroté. Les panneaux font connaître les traditions rurales d’autrefois, l’artisanat local et les richesses historiques patrimoniales. Durée : 1 h 30 Niveau : très facile Dénivelé : Plat Départ : dans le village, devant la mairie de La Brêole, panneau d’information sur la grille de la cour.

Intérêt : promenade accessible aux personnes à mobilité réduite et lecture des panneaux pour les malvoyants.

UBAYE SERRE-PONÇON SAINT-VINCENT-LES-FORTS - SENTIER NATURE ET PATRIMOINE SAINT-VINCENT-LES-FORTS Le parcours conduit le long des rues du village jusqu’aux remparts du Fort Vauban, puis contourne ce dernier pour gagner le sentier proprement dit. Cheminant sur la crête, il est ponctué de panneaux et stations d’activités ludiques pour les enfants et se termine a` la tour qui surplombe le lac de Serre-Poncon. Durée : 1 h 30

Passage obligé pour la traversée des Alpes méridionales, itinéraire majeur entre Durance et Provence, l’Ubaye est ainsi une vallée ouverte aux hommes, à l’art, à l’Histoire avec un grand H. VOYAGE AUX AMÉRIQUES Marchands, colporteurs, migrants ou voyageurs, les habitants de l'Ubaye ont toujours parcouru le monde pour exercer leur savoir-faire ou leur curiosité. On les retrouve au XIXe siècle, sur le sol mexicain, dans le commerce et l'industrie textile, et sur les rives du Mississippi, en Louisiane au souvenir français, où ils sont devenus « commerçantsplanteurs » dans le sucre, le café…

DE LA VILLA À LA TOMBE Une architecture, plus familière du décor des stations thermales, réunit, à Barcelonnette et à Jausiers, un grand nombre de villas cossues et fantaisistes qui témoignent aujourd'hui encore de la réussite sur le sol mexicain des plus chanceux. Trois villas ont obtenu le label « Patrimoine du XXe siècle ». Mais c'est surtout dans chacun des cimetières de l'Ubaye, du plus grand au plus modeste, que les enfants du pays partis chercher fortune, ont montré leur attachement au sol natal. Dans la maison Arnaud, une ancienne ferme de haute montagne où cohabitaient hommes et animaux, une vieille grange sent bon le foin et les vieux outils. À travers ces derniers, elle raconte les saisons et les multiples activités qui caractérisaient le quotidien des habitants : le travail de la terre, les moissons, le tissage de la laine et du chanvre, les travaux domestiques, la préparation des fromages et des confitures. Elle laisse surtout deviner, à travers une collection particulièrement riche, les mutations que le monde agricole va vivre au XXe siècle…

MÉMOIRES DE LA TERRE Géologie, archéologie, irrigation, inondations… Le musée de Jausiers, installé dans l’ancienne annexe de l’hôtel Dunand, évoque l’eau et la Terre. Vive, destructrice ou apprivoisée, l’eau a dessiné un paysage que l’homme a appris à entretenir et à modeler à son tour. Au contact de l’eau, la Terre a produit ses plus belles œuvres et sculptures, parmi lesquelles les demoiselles coiffées. Elle a aussi enfoui des trésors pendant des siècles ; grâce à des fouilles archéologiques, l’homme les a mis à jour, révélant ainsi l’origine ancienne de la vallée.

DES MONTAGNES ET DES HOMMES En dévoilant les paysages de la vallée et la richesse de sa faune et de sa flore, le musée du Lauzet-Ubaye révèle les savoir-faire que l’homme a développés pour l’élevage, l’artisanat, l’architecture, la chasse, la cueillette… Situé au cœur du village dans un ancien commerce, le musée invite à la découverte de la vallée.

UNE VALLÉE ET SES MILITAIRES Fondu dans le paysage, le musée est invisible depuis la route qui serpente dans la Vallée ; pourtant, trois cloches de tir attirent l’attention… Cet ouvrage Maginot aménagé en musée protégeait autrefois une frontière, aujourd’hui disparue. Sa porte blindée ouvre sur un dédale de couloirs et de pièces construites sous terre : chambrée, poste de commandement, caponnière… Ce monde invisible de l’extérieur est passionnant et riche d’histoire.

À Jausiers tous les étés, Robert Martin, ancien meunier particulièrement attaché aux traditions, redonne vie au moulin familial, le dernier en activité, et pratique les gestes d’autrefois. Ses visites passionnantes racontent la fabrication de la farine, depuis l’écrasement des grains de blé sous la grosse meule de pierre entraînée par l’eau jusqu’au tamisage de la farine. PATRIMOINE FORTIFIÉ Carrefour militaire stratégique entre Provence, Dauphiné et états de Savoie, la vallée de l’Ubaye a longtemps été disputée. Rattachée à la France en 1713 par le traité d’Utrecht, l’Ubaye est fortifiée en profondeur. Au XIXe siècle, sous la direction successive du général Haxo puis du général Séré de Rivières, les forts principaux sont construits aux zones de confluence ou sur les sommets. Ces constructions seront complétées à partir de 1931 par les ouvrages de la ligne Maginot.Témoin de l’histoire de France dans un paysage où désormais les frontières n’existent plus, ce patrimoine architectural unique et incomparable se visite.

Construit entre 1883 et 1893, il culmine à 1 866 m d’altitude, et offre une vue imprenable à 360 degrés sur la Vallée de l’Ubaye. Destiné à repousser l’ennemi Italien, il offre aujourd’hui le paradoxe d’ouvrir son pont-levis du 1 juillet au 3 septembre 2017, tous les jours à 11 h. Pendant 1 h 30, Renaud son propriétaire, vous fera partager l’histoire militaire puis civile de ce Fort dont l’activité est devenue culturelle et touristique. L’accès se fait par un chemin de randonnée balisé depuis le plan d’eau de Siguret à Jausiers, ou par La Condamine. Depuis le Fort, les randonneurs peuvent accéder au sommet de Cuguret (2 912 m) par le sentier balisé, puis à celui de Siguret (3 032 m) non balisé pour s’offrir une vue à 360 °. FORT SAINT-VINCENT Tél. 04 92 85 51 45/ 06 07 22 08 44 www.fort-st-vincent.com Le fort Saint-Vincent a été bâti sur les vestiges d’un ancien château. Après la seconde invasion savoyarde en 1692, Louis XIV envoya Vauban inspecter les places des frontières alpines, dont Saint-Vincent. La décision d’y construire le fort actuel fut prise et confiée en 1693 à Guy Creuzet de Richerand, ingénieur du roi et nouveau directeur des fortifications du Dauphiné. Vers 1830 l’entrée initiale du fort fut supprimée, maçonnée et remplacée par une porte creusée dans le redan ouest. Avec sa structure étagée sur cinq niveaux, ses nombreux souterrains et surtout sa position idéale, le fort Saint-Vincent présente un intérêt patrimonial et stratégique majeur au cœur du système défensif de l’Ubaye. Sa restauration est en cours, avec l’aide de l’Association des Amis du fort Saint-Vincent. Le site est ouvert au public lors des Journées Européennes du Patrimoine.

Creusés dans le roc, construits de béton armé et d’acier, ces ouvrages sont complètement souterrains, protegeant ainsi materiels et personnels. Seuls sont visibles les blocs de combat, composés d’embrasures ou de cloches cuirassées. À l’intérieur, des galeries abritent les zones de vie : caserne, magasins, centrale électrique. La ligne Maginot de l’Ubaye se distingue lors de l’offensive italienne de juin 1940. Bénéficiant de leurs tirs croisés efficaces et d’une tourelle à éclipse particulièrement meurtrière, les ouvrages de Saint-Ours-Haut et de Roche-la-Croix arrêtent la progression des troupes d’invasion sur la crête frontière, infligeant de lourdes pertes aux Italiens.

LA FORTERESSE DE TOURNOUX Massive et spectaculaire, constituant le noyau du dispositif stratégique de la vallée, la forteresse a été édifiée à partir de 1843 pour protéger des invasions en provenance de l’Italie. Le fort s’étage de la batterie B12 (1 330 m), groupe de casemates à canon creusées dans la roche, au fort moyen (1 550 m), et enfin au fort supérieur (1 690 m), organisé autour d’une caserne et de batteries casematées. Dès 1880, la batterie des Caurres est bâtie à 1 780 m d’altitude pour défendre les hauteurs ; entourée d’une enceinte à fossé, elle est reliée au fort supérieur par des grilles et un fort crénelé, ainsi que par une galerie creusée dans le roc. Entre 1890 et 1895, le fortin du Serre de l’Aut, perché à 2000 m, ainsi que son poste extérieur viennent compléter le système défensif de Tournoux.

Lunch is possible at the Saint-Ours guest house. Ê  Take the road that leads to the Larche pass (D900). Less than a kilometre after passing through Meyronnes village, on the left, take the road that climbs to the hamlet of Saint-Ours. At the left of the chapel, continue on the road until the carpark at the end. Take the path of the cross; follow the track crossing the Combe ravine which takes you up to the upper Saint Ours fort. With your binoculars, on the Saint Ours rock, you can watch chamois (mountain goats).

At the end of the road, park at the Pont Rouge (Red Bridge) carpark (limited number of places) another option is to park at the Orrenaye carpark situated 1km from the pass, with a walking path connection to the bridge. Follow the track which ascends the valley and the follows the Ubayette rivulet; which transforms itself into a path right to the Lauzanier lake.

Pass through Maljasset and admire its stone houses and slate roofs, take the track on the left after the last house, which goes behind the church of Maurin until you reach the hamlet of Combe Bremond, continue the path on the right bank of the Ubaye which rises slightly and reaches the Parouart Plain . Do not attempt in wet weather.

- LA BRÉOLE PATRIMONIAL SIGNAGE This cultural walk is punctuated by 13 reading panels spread out over significant points in the village following a numbered circuit. VOYAGE TO THE AMERICAS Merchants, pedlars, migrants or travellers, the Ubayen people have always travelled the world to practice their skills or their curiosity. They are found in the 19th century on Mexican soil, in the textile industry and trade and on the banks of the Mississippi, Louisiana where they have become "traders and planters" in sugar, coffee.

FROM VILLA TO GRAVE In Barcelonnette and Jausiers, an architectural style more associated with spa towns unites a large number of plush and extravagant villas that to this day bears witness to the success on Mexican soil of the luckiest emigrants. Three villas have been classified as « Patrimoine du XXe siècle ». But it is, above all, in the cemeteries of the Ubaye valley, from the largest to the most modest, where the children of the valley who left to seek their fortunes have shown their attachment to their homeland.

In a 19th century villa, discover the collections of the Museum of the Valley open to the world and other cultures. Oriental-style paintings of Jean and Marie Caire (Algeria, Tunisia), the curiosity cabinet of migrant-traveller Emile Chabrand, not to mention the adventure beyond the ocean of Barcelonnettes in Mexico (1805-1950) told by a descendant and for archaeology enthusiasts, the famous Ollivier collection of bronzes (Gleize donation).

After the second invasion of Savoy in 1692, Louis XIV sent Vauban to inspect the Alpine frontier sites, including Saint-Vincent. The decision to build the present fort was taken and entrusted in 1693 to Guy Creuzet de Richerand, engineer of the king and new director of the Dauphiné fortifications. The work was practically finished in 1696-1697, completed by a tower located at the top of the ridge. Around 1830 the original entrance of the fort was condemned, bricked over and replaced by a door dug in the west redan. Between 1875 and 1880, when Séré de Rivières decided to reinforce the second defense line of the valley at the outlet towards the Durance, he built the Redoute du Chaudon and the Châtelard, Tour and Col –Bas batteries. With its staggered structure on five levels, its many subways and above all its ideal position, Fort Saint-Vincent has a major heritage and strategic interest at the heart of the defensive system of Ubaye. It was purchased in 1997 by private owners, when it was in ruins. Its restoration is underway, with the help of the Association of Friends of Fort Saint-Vincent. The site is open to the public during the European Heritage Days.

Built between 1883 and 1893 and based on the Sere de Rivières system, it rises to 1 866 m above sea level and offers a breathtaking 300 degree view over the Ubaye Valley. Designed to repel the Italian enemy, it now offers the paradox of opening its drawbridge from July 1 to September 3, 2016, daily at 11am. For 1h30m, Renaud, the forts owner, will share the civil and military history of the fort. Access is by a marked hiking trail from the Siguret Lake in Jausiers, or from La Condamine. It takes 2h30m to climb to the fort. The fort is also accessible by a vehicle track for high vehicles which starts after 5 km and 600 m in altitude. Picnic tables are made available for picnicking after the visit. Prices: €5 - Free for children under 12 years old.

Massive and spectacular, constituting the core of the strategic system of the Ubaye valley, the fortress of Tournoux was built from 1843 to protect the valley from invasions from Italy. The fort starts at the base of the B12 battery (1 330 m), a group of gun bunkers dug into the rock, the middle level (1 550 m), consists of two buildings for troops and caverns for logistic purposes, and finally the upper fort (1 690 m), organized around a barracks and blockhouse batteries. In 1880, the battery of Caurres is built at 1 780 meters above sea level to defend the heights; surrounded by a dividing wall, it is connected to the upper fort by gates and a crenellated fort as well as a tunnel dug into the rock. Between 1890 and 1895, the fort of Serre de Aut, perched at 2 000 m and its external unit complete the defensive system of Tournoux.

Dug into the rock, built from reinforced concrete and steel, these structures are completely underground, protecting equipment and personnel. The only visible elements being the combat blocks composed of doorways or armoured bells. Inside, galleries connecting the various blocks are also home to the living areas: barracks, warehouses, power plant. The Ubaye Maginot Line stands out brightly in the Italian offensive in June 1940. With their effective crossfire and a particularly deadly eclipse turret, the Upper St. Ours and Roche-la-Croix fortifications stopped the progression of the invading troops on the border ridge, inflicting heavy casualties to the Italians.
