F o r overliauling alrvays contact a Bosch Electrical Service Station. Maint enanc e : Adjust belt tension. Under thumb pressure, belt must depress about 1 cm. (Fig. 44). - Check brushes condition every 2000 houixi, removing baclc protection clamp, talcing out brushes and cleaning housing. Length of new brushes 23 mm. iiear limit 12 mm. Even if only one of the brushes is under limit, replace a l l . - Check spring tension with dynamometer. Norma1 valve: 85O/lOO gms. Fig. 44 - Checlung belt tension. Tests and checlcs Load test of starting generator depends on battery condition. Malce a circuit as in Fig. 45 with a 20 Amp. d.c. ammeter. iiith a haif charged battery and lines connected for a 5 0 Watt absorption, current output should be 6 - 10 Amp. If under, verify if defect is in voitage reguiator. if necessary, repiace regulator aild repeat test. Check for positive ground contact in regulator, rvhich rvould otherwise cause immediate burn up of fuse inside regulator upon starting. in such case, restore contact and replacc fuse with 0.5 mm. dia. copper conductor. If there are no changes, the defect i s probably in the startillg generator which should be checlced on the electrical test bench.

2 Connect bulbs for a total absorption of 36-40 iiatts and bring en&.ne specd to 3 0 0 0 r.p.m. Voltage must be approximately 7 Volts, obviously shown by a good brightness o r the bulbs. Disconnect rvire from battery positive termina1 and connect a 5/10 Amp. d.c. ammeter. Sliould there b e no current, checlc fuse inside voltage regulator. Alternator feeds bulbs directly so voltage is regulated b y load applied, rvhich must not exceed 40 Tiatts. A higher load causes little brightness in the bulbs whereas a loiver load raises voltage thus shortening bulbs life.
