Overview of the Departmental Committee Handisport Gironde The Departmental Committee Handisport Gironde is a decentralized body of the French Federation Wheelchair. The association manages over 35 sports clubs across the Gironde’departement and brings together more than 650 sports licensees. The goal is to make it accessible to as many sports as possible for people with disabilities (driving, blind of deaf handicap). For this, the committee has many objectives: - Organize, develop, and coordinate sports activities for disabled people. Promote reflection on the acceptance, adaptation and integration of persons with a disability. - Change the representations that young people may have disabilities. - Propose activities where you could live with motor, visual and deaf disabilities. Facilitate the integration of the handicapped persons in sports clubs - Vary and develop a motor adapted to a specific situation (travel in a wheelchair, visual impairment, hearing ...). - Explore various sports activities and the disabled still unknown. - Communication about the existing sports in the Gironde
Why this Project? The majority of young people with disabilities is often complicated daily and has no brilliant results at school level. Fortunately some have the desire, time, energy, ability and capacity to practice sport. Via sport, some of them will travel for international competitions ... But it is a minority. In general, financial and logistical constraints offer very little opportunities to travel and open up to others at large. In an attempt to level this injustice and allow our young athletes from Gironde beyond the borders of disability, language… the Departmental Committee HandiSport Gironde is proud of being behind a project “European exchanges”. This exchange of young athletes with disabilities will be a National and European first.
Theme The theme of this exchange is “Integration by the sport”, we will look at the accessibility of sports, clubs and offer sporting activities wilderness between valid and handicap youngs. The principal place of the meeting is the city of Carcans Maubuisson on the coast. Handisport’s clubs in Gironde will also be asked to open their doors and allow not only a sport but also a shared reflexion when the general theme of this exchange: The social fight against social exclusion.
Young We want to invite young people with disabilities interested in sports activities and willing to invest all fields of activity mentioned above. We can accommodate 7 young including three in wheelchairs by country ;others may be hit other disability (deaf, driving and blind people). We are able to accommodate 60 persons in conditions of optimum safety. We ask as possible that 3 types of handicap will be represented: they can come from Sport’s club, Association or Specialized institutions. If necessary, several companions (maximum 3) could be involved in the exchange.
We wish to put down our project to the French national agency before the first on February 2010, for reason of serenity and to have many times to find financial partners.
