About Domaine de Bellene The Buildings • Originally a Cistercian abbey, built in the 16th century. • Acquired by Nicolas Potel in 2006. • Renovated according to very strict environmental standards, based on Canada’s HQE (Haute Qualité Environnementale). • Incorporated a rainwater collection system, solar panels for electricity and a heating system fueled by vine cuttings.

About Domaine de Bellene The Vineyards • 62 acres of vines, from Santenay in the south, to Vosne-Romanée. • Focus is on vieilles vignes (old vines – 40 years or older). • Selection massale for new plantings (no clones). • Farmed organically, incorporating Biodynamic techniques. • Very careful and selective hand picking into small bins.

Harvest at Bellene. The fruit is picked and transported in small, five-kilogram baskets to avoid damaging the fruit.

After receiving the grapes into the cellar, it is carefully sorted to select out inferior or damaged fruit.

About Domaine de Bellene The Winemaking • Vertical press for gentle pressing, which results in clear juice that does not need filtration. • Minimal cellar work: spontaneous fermentations, no enzymes, no acid adjustments, no bâtonnage, no filtration. • Gravity flow to move the wines from the fermenters to the barrels. • Up to 16 months in 228-liter barriques and 600-liter demi-muid casks.
