Mrs. Langella – Mathematics – Instructions and method These instructions must be signed by the student and by one of his parents at least. 0.Punishments. If these instructions aren’t kept, some additional exercises will be given as punishment. They have to be done for the following class and signed by one of the parents. If it isn’t so or if the exercises are dashed, the student shall go to detention. No delay is accepted to hand in homework, punishment exercises, or the “home notebook” during tests. Handing in an “anonymous” paper will get a 2 points penalty. 1. Material. Beware; each student shall come to class with all of his material in working condition: no trade of material will be allowed between students during class. Particularly, on test days, students are supposed to bring enough sheets. Pocket calculator must be brought for every class. Let’s not forget that the use of mobile phones is strictly forbidden during the class. 2. Lessons. As school year goes along, I make lessons and exercises sheets available on the Internet at the following url: http://Titaile.free.fr (do not type www). Thus, if you miss a class, you can catch up at home or at the “CDI”; therefore, you will be supposed to have learnt your lesson the day after you’re back in class. In order to keep the lessons as clear as possible, they shall be written down without customizations, just as they are on the blackboard. The notebook shall be complete, including photocopies. In the lessons, “definitions”, “properties” and “theorems” are supposed to be learnt by heart for the following class. Therefore, at the beginning of almost every class, there will be a written test and each “property” etc... will be graded out of 2 points ; after ten of those, we‘ll get a mark out of 20 points which will be counted in the end-of-term school average. 3. Exercises. The exercises that are given as homework for the following class are compulsory: I don’t ask you to do them right, I demand that they are done: you have to try, and to write down the solution you found on your notebook. You will be punished if any homework is missing. Concerning the exercises done during the class, they can eventually be marked and the mark included in the “lessons” average. The solution of the exercises has to be entirely written down on your notebook. 4. Evaluation (end-of-chapter tests and “home tests”/”devoir à la maison”). End of chapter tests are mostly made up of exercises similar to those done in class; to prepare a test, one has to do them again as a training. A notebook especially reserved for this use will be kept at home (the “home notebook”); it must be brought in class on test days. 3 points (out of 20) will reward this preparation work, if it’s complete. Doing exercises again at home (and not only copying them out) is a token of success. The “home tests”/”devoir à la maison” (longer exercises given as homework, to be done on a separate paper, not on the notebook) are supposed to be handed in on time; no delay shall be accepted and the absence of paper will get the mark 0/20. 5. Attempted cheating. Any attempted cheating (hiding documents, communicating with another student, glancing at one’s neighbour’s paper, etc…) will get the mark 0/20, with the same weighting factor as the test concerned (see below). Those attempts shall be pointed out on the end-of-term report, as well as not learning the lessons (“properties” etc...) and not preparing the tests (no “home notebook”). 6. Marking scale. The weighting factors used to calculate the school average are: “home tests”/”devoirs à la maison”: coef.1; “lessons” mark: coef.2; End-of-chapter tests: coef.3. End-of-chapter tests marks evolve as follows: sixième 1st Term 2nd Term 3rd Term
