Machja est une marque de prêtà-porter Corse reconnue pionnière dans le secteur de la mode éthique par les consommateurs et les médias. Une ligne originale à l’allure élégante et décontractée pour séduire une clientèle tendance, enthousiaste à l’idée de se faire plaisir tout en participant à un projet social basé sur le principe du respect : Respect de l’individu, à travers l’intégration des principes du Commerce Equitable dans la filière de production. Respect de l’environnement, principalement à travers l’utilisation de coton certifié biologique et le développement d’innovantes matières écologiques comme la fibre de lait. Respect du consommateur, à travers la qualité, le style et le souci du détail apportés aux produits. Machja is a fast growing Eco Fashion Label from Corsica* acknowledged being pioneer in the ethical fashion sector by consumers and the media. The new casual wear is to seduce trendy consumer, enthusiastic about gaining pleasure and participating in social issues based on the principles of respect: Respect for the individual We practice the basics of fair trade and ethic in our supply chains. Respect for the environment We use certified organic cotton and develop innovative ecological raw material such as milk fibre. Respect for the consumer We align high quality, fashion and fine details to our products. Corsica* is a French Mediterranean island located in between France and Italy.

Our organic cotton garments
Notre coton biologique est produit par 300 fermiers sur 800 hectares dans le Maharastra (Inde), qui sont payés à l’avance pour leur travail. Ce coton est de très haute qualité et est certifié par les organismes ECO-CERT* (Allemagne), SKAL* (Hollande) et IMO* (Suisse).
Our organic cotton is produced by 300 farmers in the Maharastra region of India. These farmers are paid upfront for the cotton they produce. Also located in the south of India, the factory, part of a not-for-profit regional rehabilitation programme, is run by Franciscan nuns and employs 120 young women, all of whom are either physically disabled or socially disadvantaged by the caste system. Ranging in age between 19 and 25, these women work in excellent conditions – they receive training, room and board, and of course, fair wages.
Situé dans le Sud de l’Inde, notre atelier de couture est le résultat d’un programme de réhabilitation régional à but non lucratif, il est géré par des sœurs franciscaines et emploie 120 jeunes femmes handicapées ou appartenant à des castes défavorisées. Ces femmes âgées entre 19 et 25 ans, travaillent dans d’excellentes conditions car en plus d’apprendre un métier, elles sont nourries, logées et surtout rémunérées justement. Notre filière jean Le coton que nous utilisons pour les jeans est entièrement biologique et certifié par SKAL. Il est cultivé en Ouganda. La coloration du tissu est faite selon un procédé Oeko Tex et le délavage est la résultante d’un «biowash» entièrement biologique comme son nom l’indique. Située en Tunisie, notre usine a passé avec succès un audit social garantissant de bonnes conditions de travail. Ce rapport d’audit SGS assure donc une production éthique des jeans Machja. Notre filière Pull en Lait (latte) Le lait est tout d’abord déshydraté et dégraissé. Ensuite, grâce à une technique de bio-ingénierie, on fabrique un fluide de filature des protéines de lait qui permet un processus de filature humide. La fibre de lait est ensuite filée avec de la laine pour donner une maille mi saison incroyablement soyeuse et agréable à porter. Nous collaborons avec une ONG locale en Chine membre de l’association de commerce équitable IFAT. Sa mission est d’accompagner notre atelier dans le respect des conditions éthiques de travail. Cette ONG vient en aide aux communautés ethniques situées dans les montagnes du Yunnan en sponsorisant leur école et dispensaire médical.
Our Organic Jeans Our organic denim is made with organic cotton from Ouganda and certified by SKAL (Holland).The dyeing is eco friendly and the fading is “Biowash” which is ecological. Jeans are fabricated in a Tunisian workshop certified from the SGS inspection company for a fair remuneration and good working conditions. Our Milk fiber sweaters ( Latte) Milk is first dewatered and skimmed, and then by means of new bioengineering technique, the protein spinning fluid suitable for a wet spinning process is manufactured. Milk fiber is secondly blended with wool to provide a silky and comfortable mid season material. In china, our factory for milk products is assisted by a fair trade organization with whom we are partnering in order to raise standards of working conditions. This organization helps to improve community’s life of the Yunnan Mountain by sponsoring school and free health centre.
After 2 years of existence Machja which word identifies the wild bush in Corsican language is proud to present its new Spring and Summer 2008‘s collection shot on its beautiful and environmentally preserved land of origin. We owe a big thank you to the supermodel Karolina Bosakova who has generously contributed to the growth of our fashion label by posing for this catalog shots. Karolina has been on Marie Claire, Elle, Vogue covers and she also catwalked for Chanel. So sweet and generous, she is taking part in charity initiatives and has recently participated to the supermodel calendar www. supermodelcalendar.net shot by the renowned photographer Gilles Bensimon. Profits out of this project will be donated to the www.happyheartsfun.org organisation which is dedicated to providing medical, social, and educational long term programs to orphans and their communities devastated by the Tsunami. Karolina sends this message to all people viewing this catalog and interested in our ethical and ecological values : « Little things can change the world.
