Jackson Island Adapted from “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Camille Le Rohelec List of Characters: Tom, Joe, Huck, Aunt Polly (who will be played by Joe,) Reverend (who will also be played by Joe)

Setting: Tom and Joe are sitting by the Mississipi river. Tom: « Let's go do something exciting! » Tom Joe: Joe « OK! But where can we go and what can we do? » Tom: Tom « Let's run away! We can go and live on Jackson Island. We can be pirates. A pirate's life is exciting. » Setting: The three boys are on Jackson Island . Joe: « This is fun! » Joe Tom: Tom « We're free and we can do everything we want! » Huck: Huck « What do pirates do? » Tom: Tom « They go on ships and take the money. Then they go to an Island and hide it in a secret place. » Setting: The next afternoon, around the fire. Tom: « Can you hear a strange noise? Listen! » Tom Joe: Joe « What is it? » Huck: Huck « Let's go and see » Setting: They are running to the river. Huck: « They're looking for a dead body. The same thing happened last summer when Bill Turner fell into the river Huck and drowned. » Joe: Joe « Who are they looking for this time? » Tom: Tom « I know! It's US! They think we drowned! » Setting: The next morning. Joe: « Where's Tom? » Joe Huck: Huck « I don't know. (Afew seconds later) Look! Tom's swimming in the river. He's coming to the Island. » Tom: Tom « Last night, I couldn't sleep. I thought about Aunt Polly. So I went Home but no one saw me. I saw my Aunt Polly and your mother, Joe. Poor Aunt Polly cried a lot. And your mothrer was very sad too. Everyone thinks we're dead. I heard some interesting things. » Huck: Huck « What did you hear? » Tom: Tom « Well, there will be a funeral for us on Sunday at the church. And now I have a gread idea. Listen. » (Tom tells Huck and Joe his great idea, then they laugh) Setting: Everybody is in the church and is crying. The three boys are coming in. Everybody is kissing Tom and Joe but not Huck. Tom: Tom « Aunt Polly, it's not right. Somebody must be happy to see Huck? » Aunt Polly: Polly « Oh, you're right Tom! » (She kisses Huck) Reverend: Reverend « Let us sing and be happy! »
