HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

Risks : Usually the Carbonate Baryum causes irritations when there is skin contact, eyes contact,throat and pulmons contact.It is dangerous in case of irritation and ingestion. The main effects for human due to the product ingestion involve : stomac ulcers, muscles atrophy, feelings of skin tingling and paralysis. Certains secondary effects reach the gastro-intestinal system and muscles (heart involved ). Making worse conditions following long expositions : Without application Organs concerned : The gastro-intestinal system, and muscles involving heart by ingestion. Important Effects :The main effects noted in case of skin contact are mainly limited to irritation.

Eyes contact: Rinse eyes with water immediately, at least during 15 minutes. Sulfate sodic solution. Skin contact : Change clothes quickly and wash with soap and water abundently. Ingestion : See a doctor.

Extinguishing media : The Baryum Carbonate is an ininflammable product. It is used as an extinctor product to surround fire. You have to use atomized water to humidify material and preserve from all creation of powder. Inusual risks of fire and explosion: There is no risk of fire or explosion linked to this material. However the Baryum Carbonate decomposition by thermic oxidation can product Baryum oxide. This Baryum oxide is a very alcalin product. It reacts thermically with water contact.

ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Collect the spilled substance with a wet broom. Put in its initial packing and send the product to the manufacturer. If the substance spilled over a liquid (water, oil…) or over vegetation it must be notified to Firemen and to the nearest police station. Sulfate sodic solution. The cleaning staff will have to be protected against inhalation and skin/eyes contact.

7- HANDLING AND STORAGE

• No storage near acids. • Keep far from food products. • Storage in dry and closed containers in ventilated areas.

8- EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION • Point of water to be able to rinse eyes and showers .

Inhalation by mice, TCL0 : 3130 u/m3 inhaled in a period of 24 h during the 16 weeks of gestation involve effects on the maternal process (ovaries, Fallope tube)
