Preparing Solutions Elvacite® resins dissolve at room temperature but require constant agitation to prevent solvent-swollen granules of polymer from forming agglomerates and sticking to the walls of the vessel. Important: The polymer beads should be sifted directly into the vortex of the stirred solvent to speed wetting-out and dispersion. Continuous lowshear agitation for periods of 1-12 hours, depending on the grade and concentration of resin, is recommended. After the solution appears clear in the tank, a sample should be spread out on a Leneta card or glass. After the solvent evaporates and a film forms on the card or glass, there should not be any resin seeds. If there are any seeds, the tank should be agitated further to fully dissolve the resin. Tank agitation should not be stopped (except for sampling) until the film test indicates there are no resin seeds. Any cloudiness or residue may indicate that some polymer remains undissolved. The presence of water in the system can also cause cloudiness. Solution time can be reduced by heating; most common solvents can be heated to approximately 49°C (120°F) without the need for reflux equipment. High-shear agitation also cuts dissolving time, but requires care to avoid overheating and excessive solvent loss.

COMPLIANCE WITH FDA REGULATIONS Lucite International confirms Elvacite® 2043 complies with the compositional requirements of the following United States of America’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations. 1. FDA 21 CFR 175.105 for adhesives used as components of articles intended for use in the packaging, transporting, or holding food. 2. FDA 21 CFR 175.300 in resinous and polymeric coatings used as the food contact surface of articles intended for use in producing, packing, processing, preparing, treating, packaging, transporting, or holding food. The coating in its finished form in which it is to contact food is subject to a restriction on its chloroform soluble extractives. Compliance with the limitation on extractives can only be demonstrated by tests carried out in the final article. 3. FDA 21 CFR 175.320 in resinous and polymeric coatings for polyolefin films, provided it is intended for repeated food contact use as specified in FDA 21 CFR 175.300(a). The coating in its finished form in which it is to contact food is subject to a restriction on its chloroform soluble extractives. Compliance with the limitation on extractives can only be demonstrated by tests carried out in the final article. 4. FDA CFR 176.170 as a component of the uncoated or coated food contact surface of paper and paperboard intended for use in producing, manufacturing, packing, processing, preparing, treating, packaging, transporting or holding aqueous and fatty foods. 5. FDA 21 CFR 176.180 as a component of the uncoated or coated food contact surface of paper and paperboard intended for use in producing, manufacturing, packing, processing, preparing, treating, packaging, transporting, or holding dry food. 6. FDA 21 CFR 177.1010 as semi-rigid and rigid acrylic plastics articles intended for use in contact with food. This product is limited to use only in plastic articles intended for repeated use in contact with food. The semi-rigid and rigid acrylic plastics in the finished form in which they are to contact food are subject to limitation on extractives. Compliance with the limitation on extractives can only be demonstrated by tests carried out on the final article. This statement of compliance is correct at the date of issue. As food contact regulations and product formulations are subject to change, it is the user’s responsibility to ensure that they are in possession of a current statement of compliance. Compliance with Coatings and Printing Inks Regulations within the European Union and Switzerland for Elvacite® 2043 Poly(EMA/MAA) CAS NUMBER 28572-98-7 European Union We, Lucite International can confirm that Elvacite® 2043 is formulated in accordance with the EUPIA Inventory List Comprising Packaging Ink Raw Materials applied to the Non-Food Contact Surface of Food Packaging and the Exclusion list of CEPE. Elvacite® 2043 complies with the Nestlé Guidance Note on Packaging Inks.

Switzerland - Swiss Confederation Ordinance of the FDA on articles and materials (RS 817.023.21) of 23 November 2005 (Status on 1 May 2011)

st

Annex 6 Packaging inks may only be manufactured from the substances set out in annex 1 (lists I, II and III) and annex 6 (lists I - V), subject to the requirements set out therein. Parts A and B The lists of part A contain evaluated substances, subject to the requirements set out therein, intended to be used in the manufacture of food contact materials. For the substances without a numerical value in the column SML, the value of the global migration of 10 mg/dm2 or 60 mg/kg according to the cases (cf Art. 3 of annex 1) is considered as the limit value. The substances listed in Part B of the lists have not been subjected to any officially recognized scientific testing (such as that of the scientific committee of the EFSA). The use of these substances is permitted if no transfer of these substances to foodstuffs or food simulants can be detected. The relevant proof can be provided by means of a "worst case" calculation or by a practical experiment. The substances in Part B of the lists must not be detectable in a migration test in the lowest possible concentration at which a substance may be detected using a valid method of analysis. The detection limit depends on the composition of the substance; this limit, expressed as a concentration, must in no case exceed 0.01 mg/kg of foodstuffs or food simulants (including the analytical tolerance). For substances that can be allocated to a group of compounds with similar toxicology or similar basic structure (e.g. isomers), this limit value applies to the sum of the concentrations of the substances. Lucite International can confirm that Elvacite® 2043 acrylic polymer resin, which may be used in printing ink applications, is manufactured using monomers/precursors/raw materials (including solvents) which are included in Annex 6 of Ordinance RS 817.023.21

Part A Listed materials involved in manufacture, are subject to specific migration limits: Methacrylic acid, ethyl ester, CAS No 97-63-2, used in the manufacture of Elvacite® 2043, is subject to a specific migration limit, SML(T) of 6 mg/kg. Methacrylic acid, CAS Reg No 79-41-4, is subject to a specific migration limit, SML(T) of 6 mg/kg. Water, CAS Reg No 7732-18-5

Part B Listed materials involved in manufacture, are subject to the Part B requirements indicated above: 1-Dodecanethiol, CAS Reg No 112-55-0 Propionitrile, 2,2'-azobis[2-methyl-, CAS Reg No 78-67-1 Fatty acids, tall-oil, diesters with polyethylene glycol, CAS Reg No 61791-01-3
