Bienvenue à tous ! Résumé : L’impact psychologique du cancer est maintenant largement reconnu. C’est un avancement important en oncologie psychosociale résultant de l’effort soutenu des recherches et des innovations cliniques des dernières décennies. Cependant, celles-ci repose sur l’étude d’un sous-groupe de patients bien spécifique et la représentativité de ces expériences reliées au cancer est maintenant questionnée. Ce séminaire portera sur deux groupes importants de patients : ceux atteints d’un handicap intellectuel (HI) et ceux appartenant à une identité sexuelle minoritaire (ISM). Nos recherchent ont démontré que, bien que les besoins des patients souffrant d’un HI sont similaires à d’autres groupes de malades atteints de cancer, ils présentent souvent plus de défis. Ainsi, le personnel soignant n’est pas toujours préparé et à l’aise pour gérer les soins liés au cancer et les besoins de ces patients. Une autre étude a démontré que l’expérience des patients atteints de cancers ayant une ISM est significativement plus difficile que celle des patients hétérosexuels. Ceci pourrait avoir de grandes conséquences à long terme sur leur capacité d’adaptation psychologique et leurs perceptions des soins. La conclusion portera sur la nécessité d’avoir plus d’études sur l’écart entre l’égalité et la diversité, ainsi que sur l’oncologie psychosociale et la pratique. À propos du présentateur Nick Hulbert-Williams est Coaching Psychologist et professeur en médecine comportementale à l’Université de Chester (R.-U) où il dirige le Chester Research Unit for the Psychology of Health. Spécialiste du comportement contextuel, il s’intéresse particulièrement à l’application de la Théorie de la structure relationnelle dans le développement d’interventions psychologiques efficaces utilisées en coaching psychologique et en soins de santé. Le thème central de ses recherches est l’étude de l’impact psychologique d’un diagnostic de cancer, de son traitement et de ces conséquences pour les patients et leur famille. De 2010 à 2014, il a été président de la British Psychosocial Oncology Society. Il est membre du UK National Cancer Research Institute Psychosocial Oncology et du Survivorship Clinical Studies Group et il préside le comité de recherche de l’International PsychoOncology Society. Il est également membre du UK Charitable Trust qui offre des soins psychosociaux holistiques aux malades atteints de cancer.
