S’appeler – Conjugating “s’appeler” (to be called) in the present tense WHY IT MATTERS:
A powerful verb indeed, s’appeler brings things and people into existence. Without it, mystery still surrounds our identities and no bridge gets created between us. I consider the “je m’appelle_______” formula to be one of the most powerful mantra existing in any language, not just in French. I don’t want to sound too philosophical or sound like an illuminated guru right now, but every semester, before starting a course with my new students, and after my typical intro with a “je m’appelle Herman Koutouan,” I always make certain to ask all my students to use s’appeler to say their names in French to the whole class. Once everybody is acknowledged, class may now begin.
