Call for papers and publications HRM, SME & Entrepreneurship Conference Exchanging Viewpoints Montpellier, France. April 1st, 2010. http://colloquemontpellier.free.fr/grh_pme_entrepreneuriat/ HRM, SME and Entrepreneurship are more and more frequently associated in publications and special issues of journals. Nevertheless, specialists in these three fields still rarely meet. The main objective of this conference is to foster exchange and give rise to a new research community that will launch collective, innovative projects in the form of research programs and special issues. An ongoing dialogue between HRM and SME has existed for around 20 years. Some authors have even suggested an HRM model dedicated specifically to SME. On the other hand, until quite recently HRM and Entrepreneurship have tended to ignore each other. In a recent issue, the Revue de l’Entrepreneuriat underlined the necessity to build bridges between these two fields. The evolution of capitalism calls for stronger connections between HRM, SME and Entrepreneurship. Development of entrepreneurial initiative, so evident in the business creation phase but equally inside of existing organizations, leads us to examine and question human resources know-how and how to improve it. What are the HRM practices adapted to the creation phase? How can we improve entrepreneurial competencies in existing organizations? There are many overlapping connections between HRM, SME and Entrepreneurship. Innovation could be one of these common denominators. SMEs have the right kind of organizational structure to drive innovative projects. The ability to seek new opportunities, which we can define as entrepreneurial ability, assumes that these companies have the human resources capabilities to take up and exploit such opportunities: Recruitment, remuneration and development policies all impact on entrepreneurial potential. At the crossroads of the HRM, SME and Entrepreneurship many programs could be envisaged. Such programs could include; How to maintain entrepreneurship in dispersed organizations? How to encourage SMEs to commit to innovative projects in competitive clusters? Which HRM policies would foster the entrepreneurial ability of existing organizations? Which HRM models would be appropriate for firms pursuing rapid and early internationalization? Best papers will be selected and edited in a handbook on HRM, SME & Entrepreneurship.
