Color-critical applications, such as design, prepress & publishing, video editing and digital photography, have a common answer to their need for reliable color viewing: Barco’s CALIBRATOR V LINE, the most color-accurate 21" displays available on the market today. The display family features the entry-level PERSONAL CALIBRATOR V and the REFERENCE CALIBRATOR V for high-end color accuracy. Barco’s calibrated display solutions are based upon five major building blocks: WAVE technology for image fidelity from corner to corner, individual profile generation, display calibration,

The CALIBRATOR V LINE offers the highest levels of image fidelity in the creative workflow, across media, from product design to the finalization of your marketing campaign. Prepress users will appreciate the display’s individually matched profile for perfect color rendering, photographers will be convinced by the detailed representation of dark and midtones, whereas electronic cinematography users will be delighted with the display’s stability and consistency across workstations.

Display Stabilization Display stabilization

Colorizations over time ruled out Barco’s signal processing features real-time color stabilization for repeatable results over time, across displays and in different environments. The built-in Automatic Kinescope Bias measures the instabilities of the picture tube and feeds back correction signals to maintain black and white levels. This results in solid colors and reliable profile generation, ruling out unwanted discolorations.

Display DisplayCalibration calibration No color anomalies between displays Barco’s balanced hardware and software approach utilizes special color calibration circuits, which link the graphics board with the calibration chain. Unlike software packages that modify the color Look-Up Tables (LUTs), this unique calibration technique leaves the full color range of the LUTs available for the application, thus avoiding unwanted discolorations between displays, banding and other color anomalies. The CALIBRATOR V LINE is bundled with the OPTISENSE, Barco’s calibration device. The built-in calibration electronics result in the tightest tolerances and highest color accuracy after recalibration.

Color-WAVE Color-WAVE Perfect colors from corner to corner Barco’s unique color-WAVE technology creates waves that correct the imperfections and deviations of the picture tube, by adjusting focus, convergence*, colors and uniformity*. The technique ensures unequalled image fidelity and sharpness from corner to corner, combined with screen-wide, perfect geometry, irrespective of the position of the image on the screen.

ICCIndividual Profiles ICC profiles for optimal accuracy Each CALIBRATOR carries its own individual color profile in an internal ROM chip. This profile describes the display’s behavior in ICC, ColorSync terms. These individual, accurate profiles perfectly render the mid and high tonals, which are notoriously difficult to display correctly without accurate profile information. Applications such as accurate assessments of transparencies, digital studio camera control etc... benefit from this unique feature, which brings time saving color fidelity.

PCD ‘Delta-E’ quantifies the difference between the actual color and the one that is displayed. All CALIBRATOR V displays are measured in production. The PERSONAL CALIBRATOR has an average Delta-E rating around 4. The REFERENCE CALIBRATOR on the other hand only has an average Delta-E rating around one, a difference that can hardly be perceived by the human eye but that is still measurable.

Diagnostic Function Diagnostic function for fast system check Open systems very seldom offer support in detecting where color errors are coming from. Barco CALIBRATOR displays have a built-in diagnostic measurement system, which allows to pinpoint the source of the problem: the software, the computer hardware and eventually the display. This unique confidence feature definitely guarantees time saving.

Dark Tone Calibration

High tone detail

Deep dark tone calibration for highly accurate greyscales

To avoid errors in the darker tones of the greyscale, Barco uses real-time picture tube stabilization and a dark tone sensitive OPTISENSE calibration instrument. This combination counteracts both short and long term color drift and results in highly accurate greyscales, a must for 10- and 12-bit files. The CALIBRATOR displays the exact color that is on file: every single RGB step is discernible and greyscale-controlled. Mid tone detail

Consistency Consistency across displays and visualization equipment Broadcast and cinematography applications are now fully taking advantage of the digital age. The CALIBRATOR V displays are the perfect visualization partner offering EBU alike phosphors and individual profiles, which are typically needed for high color accuracy in the latest digital media software releases. Barco's unique hardware and software approach thus ensures identical images across displays, across media and even in multiple compilations.

Personal PERSONAL CALIBRATOR V Calibrator

Image Consistency and Stability

The PERSONAL CALIBRATOR is Barco’s entry level color-accurate display for desktop publishing, graphic design, photo retouching and CadCam design. The display automatically creates and stores its individual color profile in an internal ROM chip when the first calibration routine is performed. The PERSONAL CALIBRATOR features digital control over focus and analog control over uniformity. The PERSONAL CALIBRATOR has a Delta-E rating lower than 4, which makes it the most color-accurate, entry-level calibrated display available on the market.

Reference REFERENCE CALIBRATOR V Calibrator

Image Fidelity from Corner to Corner

The REFERENCE CALIBRATOR V offers the highest levels of accuracy for color-critical applications, such as scanning, softproofing, digital photography and electronic cinematography. Each REFERENCE CALIBRATOR V carries its own individual color profile in an internal ROM chip. For optimum color accuracy, the display’s profiles are measured and stored during production, and the color-WAVE is optimized for each display. The WAVE technology offers digital uniformity correction over focus, convergence and color uniformity. The REFERENCE CALIBRATOR has a Delta-E rating around one, a difference that can hardly be perceived by the human eye but that is still measurable. Applications such as accurate assessments of transparencies, digital studio camera control etc... benefit from this unique feature, which brings time saving color fidelity.
