NL Met Four Directions of Heaven, het vervolg van STEP UP! en tentoonstellingen met werk van Orla Barry, Roy Villevoye & Jan Dietvorst geeft Argos de aftrap voor een jaar waarin thema’s als transformatie, diversiteit en zorgzaamheid centraal staan. Nieuw dit jaar zijn heel wat omkaderende publieksactiviteiten voor jong en oud, waarvan er een aantal in deze brochure voorgesteld worden. Argos wil niet alleen haar opdracht vervullen door aan kunstenaars een platform te bieden en kritisch werk te tonen dat ingaat tegen elke vorm van culturele zelfgenoegzaamheid. We willen, omdat het belangrijk is, de bezoeker meer dan ooit begeleiden. Evenwel zonder betuttelend te worden en hem/ haar vrij te laten op de ontdekkingstocht door het wondere landschap van de verbeelding. Dans l’œuvre aux multiples strates d’Alexis Destoop (Courtrai, 1971), la perception du temps, le fonctionnement de la mémoire et des processus connexes de la reconnaissance sont au cœur de sa réflexion. Au milieu des années 2000, le point focal dans son œuvre évolua de la performance vers une fascination pour le paysage puisant ses racines dans la peinture, la littérature et le cinéma. Combinant photos, textes et vidéos, il entremêle des éléments fictifs à des observations documentaires questionnant ainsi les modalités narratives – du storytelling. C’est ce qu’il fait également à Argos. Résidant entre Bruxelles et Sydney, Destoop oscille entre l’Europe, l’Asie et l’Océanie. Cette grande mobilité et itinérance influencent directement son œuvre. Four Directions of Heaven montre un ensemble d’œuvres nouvelles ou récentes qui se démarquent de nos standards habituels. Poursuivant ses recherches fouillées sur le statut des paysages en transition: l’Outback australien, la cosmopolite Hong Kong, Norvège, Russie et autres parties d’Europe. Des témoignages, expériences et fines observations viennent se confronter aux images. Mais l’artiste intervient, assemble et tend à l’abstraction. Faisant émerger des multiples voix en un corpus de commentaires, de fragments d’histoires… déployés de façon très engagée sur les questions (néo-)coloniales et écologiques, mais aussi sur la valeur économique d’un paysage et son importance géopolitique. Four Directions of Heaven nous convie également à une promenade virtuelle où la transformation joue un rôle moteur. Les suggestives et subtiles interventions digitales de Destoop créent un territoire frontalier où les niveaux micro et macro se confondent et où la frontière entre réel et artificiel se dissout.

Centraal in het veelgelaagde oeuvre van Alexis Destoop (Kortrijk, 1971) staat het ervaren van de tijd, de werking van het geheugen en de daaraan verbonden processen van herkenning. Midden jaren 2000 verschuift de focus in zijn werk van performance naar een fascinatie voor het landschap die wortelt in schilderkunst, literatuur en cinema. In foto’s, tekst en video laat hij fictieve elementen vlotjes door elkaar lopen met documentaire bevindingen om zo de compositie-elementen van het verhalen-vertellen – van storytelling – te bevragen. Zo ook bij Argos. Verblijvend tussen Brussel en Sydney, schippert Destoop tussen Europa, Azië en Oceanië. Die flinke hap on the road kent een directe weerslag op zijn werk. Four Directions of Heaven toont een cluster van nieuwe en recente werken die een loopje nemen met onze verwachtingspatronen. Aan de basis ligt een langlopend onderzoek naar de status van landschappen in transitie: de outback van Australië, kosmopolitisch Hongkong, Noorwegen, Rusland en andere delen van Europa. Tegenover die beelden staan particuliere getuigenissen, belevenissen en bevindingen.

Maar de kunstenaar grijpt in, assembleert en abstraheert. Zo ontpoppen individuele stemmen zich tot een composiet van verbrokkelde commentaren en verhalen waaruit een sterke betrokkenheid spreekt omtrent (neo-)koloniale en ecologische kwesties, alsook rond de economische waarde en het geopolitieke belang van een landschap. Four Directions of Heaven staat ook voor een virtuele wandeling waarin de idee van transformatie het voortouw neemt. Destoops suggestieve en subtiele digitale ingrepen creëren immers een grensgebied waarin micro- en macroniveau’s over elkaar buitelen en de grens tussen reëel en artificieel oplost.

Central in the multilayered oeuvre of Alexis Destoop (b. 1971, Kortrijk) is the experience of time, the functioning of the memory and the related processes of recognizing things. In the mid-2000s the focus in his work shifts from performance to a fascination with the landscape, which is anchored in painting, literature and film. In photographs, texts and videos fictitious elements freely intermingle with documentary information in order to question the compositional elements of storytelling. That is also true of the work on view at Argos. Residing alternately in Brussels and Sydney, Destoop travels back and forth between Europe, Asia and Oceania—and these long stretches of time on the move have direct implications for his work. Four Directions of Heaven features a cluster of new and recent works that mock our expectations. Underlying the work there is a long-term research project concerning the status of landscapes in transition: the Australian outback, the cosmopolitan town of Hong Kong, as well as regions in Norway, Russia and other parts of Europe. These images are juxtaposed with private testimonies, experiences and findings. But the artist also intervenes, assembles and abstracts. Thus individual voices turn into a composite of fragmented comments and stories that bear witness to a strong commitment with regard to (neo) colonial and ecological issues, as well as the economic value and geopolitical importance of a landscape. Four Directions of Heaven is also a virtual walk in which the idea of transformation predominates. Indeed, Destoop suggestive and subtle digital interventions create a border area in which micro- and macro-level tumble over each other and the border between real and artificial dissolves.

We schenken uitgebreid aandacht aan de geschiedenis van dans en performance in België en de relatie van deze kunstdisciplines met film en video. Het tweede deel van de tentoonstelling STEP UP! Belgian Dance and Performance on Camera 1970-2000 toont werk van kunstenaars en choreografen onder wie Thierry De Mey, Lili Dujourie, Sven Augustijnen, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Jan Fabre en Steve Paxton. In de naoorlogse decennia ontwikkelen dans en performance zich in aparte circuits, een ‘afgescheiden’ totstandkoming die naar het keerpunt van het millennium toe steeds verder afbrokkelt. Vandaag doet die scheiding er nog weinig toe en precies daarom vormt het nu een boeiende uitdaging om historische werken naast elkaar te leggen. Veeleer dan een overzicht te willen bieden staat STEP UP! voor een selectie van werken die in het tentoonstellingsparcours spelenderwijs frisse aandachtspunten, alternatieve beschouwingen en verrassende associaties op wil werpen.

Nous accordons une attention particulière à l’histoire de la danse et de la performance en Belgique, et de même, aux relations de ces disciplines avec le cinéma et la vidéo. La seconde partie de l’exposition STEP UP! Belgian Dance and Performance on Camera 19702000 présente les œuvres d’artistes et chorégraphes parmi lesquels : Thierry De Mey, Lili Dujourie, Sven Augustijnen, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Jan Fabre et Steve Paxton. Durant la décennie de l’aprèsguerre, la danse et la performance se sont développées dans des circuits distincts. Mais au tournant du millénaire, cette séparation s’est toujours plus effritée. Aujourd’hui, celle-ci paraît presque caduque. C’est pourquoi la confrontation entre des œuvres ‘historiques’ constitue un passionnant défi. Bien plus qu’une vue d’ensemble, l’exposition STEP UP! présente une sélection d’œuvres formant un parcours ludique, pointant des thématiques, proposant des réflexions et associations inattendues.

We focus extensively on the history of dance and performance in Belgium and on how these art disciplines relate to film and video. The second part of the exhibition STEP UP! Belgian Dance and Performance on Camera 1970-2000 presents work by artists and choreographers such as Thierry De Mey, Lili Dujourie, Sven Augustijnen, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Jan Fabre and Steve Paxton. In the decades after the war, dance and performance developed in autonomous circuits, but towards the turning point of the millennium, this ‘separate’ development increasingly crumbled. Today, this separation is hardly relevant and precisely therefore it constitutes a fascinating challenge to present historical works side by side. Instead of attempting to provide an overview, STEP UP! presents a selection of works that in a playful way wants to draw attention to fresh points of interest, alternative viewpoints and surprising associations.

En collaboration avec le Kaaitheater et Performatik, Orla Barry présente à Argos la première de Breaking Rainbows, une performance et une exposition éponyme. Orla Barry (1969, Wexford) allie à son métier d’artiste plasticienne celui de berger. Ayant habité 16 ans à Bruxelles, elle a repris une ferme dans la campagne irlandaise. Dans son travail, elle cherche à relier vie et art de manière durable. Il en résulte de multiples œuvres : performances, vidéo, textes, son et photos. Dans Breaking Rainbows, l’artiste est partie de sa production annuelle de laine – 300 kg – qu’elle met en relation avec les interactions des performers Einat Tuchman et Derrick Devine Cette œuvre dénonce notre relation problématique avec la nature. Si l’artiste multiplie dans ses performances live et ses installations vidéo les coïncidences, jeux de langages et humour, ce qu’elle tend de rendre ici d’une façon très sensible c’est le désespoir devant la direction prise par notre monde aujourd’hui. Breaking Rainbows nous confronte à une expérience hybride qui décline différentes positions, points de vues et scénarii. Mêlant des expériences engrangées dans une bergerie aux révélations sur le fonctionnement de notre cerveau ; des concours de chants pastoraux dans la Grèce antique aux problématiques écologiques en 2017.

In samenwerking met het Kaaitheater en Performatik brengt Orla Barry bij Argos de première van Breaking Rainbows, een performance en een gelijknamige tentoonstelling. Orla Barry (1969, Wexford) is zowel beeldend kunstenares als schaapherder. Na 16 jaar in Brussel te wonen, runt ze nu op het Ierse platteland een boerderij. In haar praktijk zoekt ze naar duurzame manieren om leven en kunst te verbinden hetgeen resulteert in een veelheid van werken: performances, video, teksten, geluid en foto-installaties. Breaking Rainbows plaatst 300 kilogram wol – haar eigen productie van één jaar – in relatie en interactie met de performers Einat Tuchman en Derrick Devine. Het werk stelt onze problematische verhouding met de natuur aan de kaak. Terwijl de kunstenares zowel de live-performance als de videoinstallatie doorspekt met toevalligheden, taalspelletjes en gezapige humor, maakt ze bovenal de wanhoop sterk voelbaar met betrekking tot de richting waarin we de wereld vandaag sturen. Breaking Rainbows staat voor een versplinterde ervaring waarin

In cooperation with Kaaitheater and Performatik, Orla Barry presents in Argos the premiere of the performance Breaking Rainbows and the exhibition of the same name. Orla Barry (b. 1969, Wexford) is both visual artist and shepherdess. After living in Brussels for 16 years, she now runs a farm in the Irish countryside. In her artistic practice she looks for a durable way to link life and art, which has resulted in a particularly varied oeuvre: performances, video, texts, sound and photo installations. In Breaking Rainbows the artist links 300 kg of wool—her own one year production—to the performers Einat Tuchman and Derrick Devine, creating an interaction. The work exposes our problematic relation to nature. The artist punctuates both her live performance and her video installation with coincidences, language games and mild humour, but above all she makes us feel very strongly an element of desperation with regard to the direction the world is heading today. Breaking Rainbows stands for a shattered experience in which positions, perspectives and storylines intermingle. From experiences at a sheep farm to revelations about the functioning of our brain. From pastoral song contests in ancient Greece to ecological issues in 2017.

Al bijna twintig jaar verkennen de Nederlandse kunstenaars Jan Dietvorst (1953) en Roy Villevoye (1960) zeer uiteenlopende thema’s, waaronder beeldvorming in de antropologie, de conventies van de documentaire en cultuur als een middel tot aanpassing en re-enscenering. Hoewel hun video's vaak beschouwd worden als documentaires, distantiëren beide kunstenaars zich uitdrukkelijk van de doelgerichtheid van het genre. EVIDENCE, hun eerste grote solotentoonstelling in België, is niet zozeer een retrospectieve als wel een relativerende kijk op hun werk. Op de tentoonstelling zien we Evidence en Showcase, twee nieuwe in opdracht gemaakte werken die het synthetische en analytische proces van hun praktijk verdiepen. Vooral twee thema's worden onderzocht en ontleed: de herinnering aan Wereldoorlog I en een ontmoeting met de Asmat in de Indonesische provincie Papoea. Depuis presque vingt ans, les artistes hollandais Jan Dietvorst (1953) et Roy Villevoye (1960) explorent des questions aussi diverses que la représentation anthropologique, les conventions du film documentaire et de la culture comme moyens d’adaptation et de représentation. Même si leurs vidéos sont fréquemment considérées comme des documentaires, ils se distancient explicitement et résolument du genre. EVIDENCE est leur première exposition majeure en Belgique. Elle se concentre sur leurs productions audiovisuelles et présente deux œuvres récentes – Evidence et Showcase – mettant ainsi en valeur autant une synthèse qu’une analyse de leurs pratiques. Deux thèmes y sont principalement investigués et disséqués: la mémoire de la Première Guerre Mondiale et la rencontre avec le peuple Asmat dans la province de Papouasie en Indonésie. Parmi leurs œuvres, AFTER THE BATTLE (2012) condense trois films sur la Première Guerre Mondiale (Winter Prayers 2006, The Scrap-Iron Age, 2008, War is Over, 2011) – montrant comment la « culture du souvenir » semble combiner la mythomanie, l’entreprenariat, la psychopathologie et les tendances poétiques. Alors que les récents Voice-Over (2014), The Double (2015) et The New Dress (2016) s’associent autant comme une trilogie de manuels qu’un ensemble d’expériences personnelles. Plusieurs de leurs vidéos sur le peuple Asmat provoquent des sentiments à la fois d’empathie et de malaise. L’opposition stéréotype “nous” et “eux” y fait question. Des histoires sont racontées, mais souvent sans progression ou intentions claires… si ce n’est peut-être celle de détruire l’illusion d’une Nouvelle Guinée vue comme un monde vierge, isolé en soi. Les attentes et malentendus réciproques ne doivent pas être dissimulés. Il s’agit bien d’un peuple réel, pas de constructions artistiques ou idéologiques. FR

EVIDENCE van de herinnering een combinatie lijkt van mythomanie, ondernemerschap, psychopathologie en een hang naar poëzie. De recente werken Voice-Over (2014), The Double (2015) en The New Dress (2016) zijn tegelijk een trilogie studies en een verzameling van persoonlijke ervaringen. Verschillende video's over de Asmat vervullen ons met gevoelens van empathie en onbehagen. Wat deze video's in vraag stellen, is de stereotype tegenstelling tussen ‘wij’ en ‘zij’. Er worden verhalen verteld, vaak zonder duidelijke vooruitgang of doel, behalve misschien om de illusie te verhelpen dat Nieuw-Guinea een onaangeraakte, geïsoleerde wereld is op zich. Wederzijdse verwachtingen en misverstanden hoeven niet verdoezeld te worden. Dit gaat tenslotte over echte mensen, niet over kunstzinnige of ideologische constructies.

For almost twenty years the Dutch artists Jan Dietvorst (b. 1953) and Roy Villevoye (b. 1960) have been exploring issues as diverse as anthropological representation, the conventions of documentary filmmaking and culture as a means of adaptation and reenactment. Though their videos are frequently considered documentaries, they explicitly distance themselves from the purposeful aspect of the genre. EVIDENCE, their first major solo exhibition in Belgium, is not so much a retrospective, but tries to look at their work in perspective. Featuring Evidence and Showcase, two newly commissioned works that deepen a process of synthesis and analysis relating to their practices, the exhibition focuses on their audiovisual productions. Mainly two themes are investigated and dissected: the memory of World War I and the encounter with the Asmat people in the Papua province of Indonesia. AFTER THE BATTLE (2012) condenses three films about World War I (Winter Prayers 2006, The Scrap-Iron Age, 2008, War is Over, 2011) and shows how the culture of remembrance seems a combination of mythomania, entrepreneurship, psychopathology and poetic leanings, while the recent works Voice-Over (2014), The Double (2015) and The New Dress (2016) are at the same time a trilogy of tutorials and a set of personal experiences. Several videos focusing on the Asmat people fill us with feelings of empathy and unease. What these films question, is the stereotypic opposition between ‘us’ and ‘them’. Stories are narrated, but often without any clear progression or goal, except perhaps to shatter the illusion of New Guinea as an untouched, isolated world in itself. Mutual expectations and misunderstandings need not be concealed. After all, this is all about real people, not artistic or ideological constructs.

Nadat we in eerdere hoofdstukken inzoomden op voornamelijk de wortels van de dans- en performancefilm en video, kiest het derde en laatste deel van STEP UP! eerder het stoutmoedige pad. In dit tentoonstellingsluik confronteren we een veelheid historische choreografieën met werken van kunstenaars die los van de performanceof danswereld tot stand kwamen, maar die toch een gelijksoortige esthetiek, positionering of filosofie ademen. Werkten kunstenaars van verschillende disciplines en achtergronden indertijd met eenzelfde tekenleer? Waar bestaan er overlappingen en verschillen, zowel inhoudelijk en conceptueel als vormelijk? STEP UP! Belgian Dance and Performance on Camera 19702000 CHAPTER 3 bulkt van de grensverleggende werken. Het hoofdstuk valt uiteen in twee delen waarvan u de deelnemende kunstenaars hiernaast terugvindt.

Après que les deux chapitres précédents se soient concentrés sur les débuts du film et de la vidéo consacrés à la danse et performance, la troisième et dernière partie de STEP UP! vous emmène sur des voies plus audacieuses encore. Dans ce volet de l’exposition nous confrontons un grand nombre de chorégraphies « historiques » avec des œuvres d’artistes qui ont été réalisées en dehors du monde de la danse ou de la performance, mais qui néanmoins partagent une esthétique, des prises de position ou une philosophie similaires. Des artistes de différentes disciplines et origines partagèrent-ils à l’époque de mêmes langages? Quels seraient les chevauchements et différences tant sur fond, le concept ou la forme ? STEP UP! Belgian Dance and Performance on Camera 1970-2000 CHAPTER 3 regorge d’œuvres exploratoires. Le chapitre se décompose en deux parties dont vous retrouverez les artistes ci-dessous.

Having focused mainly in earlier chapters on the roots of dance and performance film and video, in our third and last part of STEP UP! we choose a more bold road. In the exhibition we confront various historical choreographies with works by artists that are not linked to the world of dance or performance, but that also breathe a similar aesthetics, position or philosophy. Did artists belonging to different disciplines and backgrounds used to work with the same semiotic language? What kind of overlaps and differences are there with regard to content, concept, as well as formal language? STEP UP! NL Sinds 1996 organiseert Casino Luxembourg – Forum d'art contemporain tentoonstellingen over hedendaagse kunst, getuigend van de diversiteit en complexiteit van de actuele kunstbewegingen. Het internationaal tentoonstellingsprogramma – met vooral kunstenaars van een jongere generatie – biedt een breed overzicht van de hedendaagse creaties. Los van alle museale bekommernissen, fungeert Casino Luxembourg als een artistieke en experimentele denktank die de laatste trends van de internationale kunstscène verkent. Na een architecturale transformatie begin 2016 – twintig jaar na de opening van de instelling – voegde Casino Luxembourg een BlackBox toe aan zijn tentoonstellingsruimtes. Net als de gelijknamige projectieruimte in Argos, is ook deze BlackBox gewijd aan kunstenaarsfilms en -video’s. Het openingsprogramma van BlackBox richtte zich op recente audiovisuele producties uit Luxemburg. Aan bod kwamen werken van David Brognon & Stéphanie Rollin, Marco Godinho, Sophie Jung, Karolina Markiewicz & Pascal Piron, Filip Markiewicz, Nora Wagner & Romain Simian. Een selectie van deze werken wordt voorgesteld door Kevin Muhlen (directeur van Casino Luxembourg) in Argos. Een gelegenheid om een reis te ondernemen en de stimulerende en uiteenlopende hedendaagse audiovisuele productie uit Luxemburg te ontdekken.

FR Depuis 1996, le Casino Luxembourg – Forum d'art contemporain organise des expositions sur l’art contemporain, attestant ainsi de la variété et complexité des mouvements artistiques actuels. EN Since 1996 Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain has organized exhibitions on contemporary art, attesting to the variety and complexity of current art movements. The international exhibition programme—mostly featuring younger-generation artists— provides a comprehensive insight into contemporary creation. Regardless of any museological concerns, Casino Luxembourg functions as an artistic and experimental think tank that explores the latest trends in the art scene. After an architectural transformation in early 2016—twenty years after its opening—Casino Luxembourg added a BlackBox to its exhibition spaces. Just like the projection room of the same name at Argos, the Casino's BlackBox is devoted to artists' films and videos. The inauguration programme of the BlackBox focused on recent experimental Luxembourgish audiovisual productions and presented works by David Brognon & Stéphanie Rollin, Marco Godinho, Sophie Jung, Karolina Markiewicz & Pascal Piron, Filip Markiewicz, Nora Wagner & Romain Simian. 07.06.2017 – 25.06.2017 BIENAL DE LA IMAGEN EN MOVIMIENTO MEMORY EXERCISES NL In het leven geroepen door de Universad Nacional de Tres de Febrero, is de Bienal de la Imagen en Movimiento (BIM) gewijd aan experimentele film en video. Voor de laatste editie nodigde de biënnale tien Argentijnse kunstenaars uit om een vier minuten durende video te maken over de veertigste verjaardag van de burgerlijke en militaire dictatuur in Argentinië. Toen op 24 maart 1976 de dictatuur begon, lanceerde de militaire regering nieuwe politieke plannen en repressieve maatregelen, werden alle revolutionaire projecten opgedoekt, nam de terreur van de staat een aanvang en werden systematisch mensen ontvoerd, maar daarnaast onderging Argentinië ook een radicale transformatie op economisch en sociaal vlak. 30,000 mannen, vrouwen, kinderen en oudere mensen verdwenen – dood zonder een graf te krijgen. Memory Exercises presenteert een nieuwe ruimte voor reflectie, voor een persoonlijke kijk, aarzelend tussen tijd en materialiteit. Een echo, een gezamenlijke constructie, een volharden. Manieren om zich aanwezig te stellen, vormen van niet-verdwijnen. Oefeningen die geschreven worden in lichamen, in gedachten. Oefeningen als kreten.

FR Initiée par l’Université Nationale de Tres de Febrero (Buenos Aires), la Bienal de la Imagen en Movimiento (BIM) est dédiée à la vidéo et au cinéma expérimental. Lors de sa dernière édition, la BIM a invité 10 artistes argentins à créer une vidéo de 4 minutes sur le thème du 40ième anniversaire de la dictature civile et militaire en Argentine. Le début de la dictature, le 24 mars 1976, n’impliqua pas uniquement la mise en application des plans politiques et répressifs du gouvernement militaire, la fin de tous les projets révolutionnaires, la pratique du terrorisme d’Etat et des enlèvements méthodiques de personnes ; mais il causa aussi une profonde transformation de l’Argentine en termes économiques et sociaux : trente mille hommes, femmes, enfants et personnes âgées ont disparu, sans sépulture. Memory Exercises ouvre un nouvel espace de réflexion, de perspectives personnelles mouvantes entre les époques et les façons de rendre compte de la matérialité des faits. Une résonance commune, une construction collective, une persistance. Des manières de signifier la présence des disparus et leur prégnance. Des exercices scripturaux en pensées et sur les corps. Des exercices qui sont des cris.

EN Produced by the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero (Buenos Aires), the Bienal de la Imagen en Movimiento (BIM) is dedicated to experimental cinema and video. For the latest edition, the BIM invited ten Argentinean artists to create a 4-minute video about the 40th Anniversary of the civic and military dictatorship in Argentina. The start of the dictatorship, 24 March 1976, entailed not only the rolling out of the military government’s political and repressive plans, the breaking up of revolutionary projects, the practice of state terrorism, and the systematic abduction of people, but also a profound transformation of Argentina in economic and social terms. 30,000 men, women, children and elderly disappeared, dead without a grave. NL Elk jaar studeren masters aan onze Belgische filmscholen af met prachtige werken. Die vaak korte tot middellange films blijven helaas al te vaak van een ruimer publiek verstoken. In 2017 brengt Argos daar verandering in. Nog voor de zomerstop presenteren we immers een uitgelezen selectie van parels die op het einde van dit academiejaar aan professionele jury’s werden voorgesteld als eindwerk en afstudeerproject. Van spannende fictie en animatie tot creatieve documentaire: kom de Belgische filmmakers van de toekomst in onze Black Box ontdekken! Het programma maken we online bekend in juni 2017. Kunst vertaald in keitoffe spelletjes! We leren werken met audiovisuele registratietechnieken (camera, microfoon) en kijken binnen in de wondere wereld van de performancekunst. EN In the course of its history, Argos has built up a collection of 4500 artists’ films and videos covering 45 years. Most are single-channel works on digital support. The collection plays a pivotal role. It is not only Argos’s artistic and symbolic capital, but also the discursory basis for many of this arts centre’s activities. It is possible for the public to consult the collection in the media library by appointment. The majority of the works can be borrowed for screening externally through Argos’s distribution department.

La plupart sont des œuvres vidéo mono-bandes sur support numérique. La collection remplit une fonction essentielle car elle constitue non seulement le capital artistique et symbolique d’Argos, mais aussi la base discursive de nombreuses activités du centre d’art. La collection peut être consultée à la médiathèque sur rendez-vous.

NL De audiovisuele collectie van kunstenaarsfilms en -video’s die Argos opbouwde, overspant meer dan 45 jaar en omvat 4500 werken. De meeste daarvan zijn single-channel-videowerken op digitale drager. De collectie vervult een scharnierfunctie. Ze vormt niet alleen het artistiek en symbolisch kapitaal van Argos, maar tevens de discursieve basis voor veel van de activiteiten van het kunstencentrum. De collectie kan na afspraak publiek geconsulteerd worden in de mediatheek.
