However you spell it and in whatever language, ‘Excellence’ is something people have always aimed to achieve – but few actually do. Studies have shown that the most important way to acquire excellence in any field is to practice. The CEDEP AME Programme doesn’t promise to transform participants into excellent managers within 20 days – clearly that would be impossible. But it is designed to set your most promising cadres on the path towards it, armed with a toolkit to help them continue practicing on their own and within their company for the rest of their careers. Excellence requires nothing less. The AME programme introduces participants to business functions such as financial analysis, marketing strategy, project management, change management, decision making, leadership skills and team building. Along the way, they will have the chance to test themselves against the highest standards, sharpen their analytical, quantitative and communication skills and understand how, when they return to their companies, they can help create value. What differentiates the AME programme and makes it highly effective is the innovative way in which these elements are delivered.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

FUNCTIONS REPRESENTED

Ideally, AME candidates should be high potential middle managers, aged between 28-35 years and earmarked by their line managers and L&D directors for advancement and greater responsibility. Typically with around six years of ‘on the job’ experience in a specific functional domain, their companies consider them ready to take the step up to broader, more general management role with team responsibilities.

GEOGRAPHIC ORIGIN

However, the success of such a transition will depend on those managers being capable of taking a multi-functional approach based on a sound knowledge and understanding of areas such as

strategy, marketing and finance.

PROGRAMME FOCUS

The AME runs once a year in a two-module format of nine days each, with three months in-between, allowing participants to reflect upon and implement their learning in-between modules. When they return to CEDEP for the second module, they have the opportunity to share their experiences and discuss what succeeded and what failed – and why. What did they do right or wrong, and where do gaps in their knowledge remain?

MODULE 1 Business Fundamentals Builds the business fundamentals. Participants examine the various business functions and how operational management link to corporate strategy. There is also an in-depth look at managing teams, coaching others, and performance management.

MODULE 2 Impact on Corporate Strategy Focuses on integration of the learning and impact on corporate strategy. Participants delve deeply into how topics such as change management, investment analysis, and decision making have an impact on overall performance as well as the culture of the company. A strategy simulation game is also used to enhance learning.

PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS The ame journey to excellence has three important staging posts; • the Splash project: it is a short cut to readiness that leaves participants keyed up and eager for the rest of the programme • Participants’ own company presentations: this exercise is designed to stimulate participants to think about their own company and is one of the great catalysts for networking among the AME group • the Director’s Servisim simulation: the final two days of the second module are taken up by the running of Servisim, a marketing services simulation. During this, participants work in teams to manage a company over a multi year period.

“The programme covers a variety of relevant subjects in an integrated fashion using excellent professors, an international environment, good mix of participants from different cultures, industries and management functions.” International Project Manager Bekaert, China

THE AME ROI IN SUMMARY: AME gives participants the management theory, tools and techniques they lacked and more important, the understanding to use them. AME connects managers from different industries in different countries drawn from Cedep’s many member companies. The result is a programme marked by an enriching cross fertilisation of ideas and experience, and an unrivalled peer network they can call on at all times.
