THE NEW HEAVY TRUCK RANGE FROM SCANIA

The P-series. Premium short-haul and intrastate prime movers and rigids.

THE P-SERIES

THE P-SERIES

Long-haul technology and durability in a short-haul package. The P-series is designed for distribution and single trailer applications where driver comfort and safety, vehicle uptime and fuel economy are key considerations. The P-series features the latest technological advancements in braking, air systems, aerodynamics and ergonomics as well as an entirely new cab interior. A new five-cylinder 9-litre engine features Scania PDE unit injection - the first time this advanced technolgy has been included on a Scania sub-10 litre engine. The new engine features the same combustion chamber as the 11, 12 and 16litre engines, introducing parts and servicing commonality across the entire Scania engine range. Other product highlights include new frontal styling, a new day cab option and new generation electronic disc brakes.

Scania Retarder and exhaust brake have been integrated into the brake system, and the further refinement of Scania Opticruise means the driver rarely need intervene to control gear changing. With EBS and disc brakes standard on all air-suspended trucks, the P-series brings new levels of safety and reliability to urban distribution and intrastate haulage. The new electrical system features a CAN-bus-based electrical system, easy troubleshooting of all electronic control units, and bodywork electrics prepared outside the cab. The P-series cabs have passed Scania’s unique 35 km/h crash test and are impact-tested to Swedish cab safety standards.

THE P-SERIES

The P-series’ new cab brings driver comfort to new levels. A wide range of adjustments to the seat and steering column lets drivers find exactly the right position for a comfortable, relaxed posture. A new curved dashboard features new controls and instrumentation, and the steering wheel can be optioned with buttons for cruise control. The new cab interior features new seats, an almost flat floor, an abundance of storage compartments and lockers, a bed 15cm wider than the 4-series and options like automatic climate control. Controls and switches on the dashboard are located within a sweep of the forearm – there’s no need to stretch or take the eyes off the road. Scania Opticruise and Scania Retarder, for example, are activated by a combined lever on the steering column.

Performance and fuel economy. 9-litre The five-cylinder 9-litre is suited to short to long-haul 4x2, 6x2 and 8x4 distribution applications, as well as short-haul 4x2 prime mover applications carting cubic freight. Scania’s newest engine is characterised by its high torque at low revs. Power outputs are 230hp and 1050Nm, 270hp and 1250Nm, and 310hp and 1550Nm between 1100 and 1300 rpm.

11-litre The six-cylinder 11-litre is suitable for a range of applications, from heavy distribution to long-haulage and construction, including all-wheel-drive applications. Fuel injection is via Scania PDE electronicallycontrolled unit injectors. The 11-litre engine is a short-stroke version of the 12-litre engine, with which it shares most parts and components. Power outputs are 340hp and 1600Nm and 380hp and 1800Nm between 1100 and 1300 rpm. The exhaust brake produces 218 kW at 2300 rpm.

THE P-SERIES

12-litre

The 12-litre’s main applications are local and intrastate single trailer, but it also excels in heavy distribution and construction applications. The ADR80/00 (Euro 3) version produces 420hp and 2100Nm at 1100 to 1300rpm. The exhaust brake produces 230kW at 2300rpm. The 12-litre features Scania HPI, a high-pressure fuel injection system designed for low fuel consumption and low emissions. HPI allows infinitely variable adjustments in fuel delivery that ensures precise timing. Drivers will find that torque rises quickly from low revs and is easily maintained over a broad range.

The new Scania 9-litre engine.

Three lively power options.

With outputs of 230hp, 270hp and 310hp, the new Scania 9-litre engine can be tailored for short or long haul two-, three- or four-axle rigid distribution or short-haul single-drive prime mover applications. Stronger and more powerful.

The new engine features among the highest torque of any powerplant in its class. The fast build-up from low revs gives rapid pick-up and power when you need it most. Improved reliability and uptime.

By using the same combustion chamber as the rest of the Scania range, the new 9-litre engine is made from components that are tried, proven and already available in the Scania parts system. Better fuel economy.

The use of Scania’s proven combustion chamber means the new 9-litre enjoys all the benefits of advanced engine technology previously available only on the 11, 12 and 16 litre engines. By incorporating Scania PDE unit injection, four valves per cylinder and Scania’s unique modular combustion chamber, the new 9-litre gains the best possible balance of fuel consumption, torque and emissions. Improved auxiliary braking.

An increase in exhaust braking power from 170kW to 180kW means improved safety and longer brake lining life. Scania Retarder can also be specified for operations in mountainous or hilly terrain. Expert design.

The new 9-litre features individual heads for each cylinder, a common cylinder crown shape, a unique valve actuation system and rear-mounted timing gear. The new engine has all the design elements synonymous with Scania innovation and quality. Turbocharged and charge-cooled.

Improved fuel economy and excellent driveability across a wide rev range are among the new engine’s strongest traits. Electronic engine management.

Scania’s highly advanced engine management provides precise control over the entire combustion process for economical performance and operational reliability. A plug-in connection for Scania Diagnos allows easy testing and trouble-shooting. Meeting Australia’s emission requirements from 2007.

The new 9-litre meets the ADR80/00 (Euro 3) emissions requirement for new trucks and has been designed to cope with the added technology needed to meet ADR80/01 (Euro 4).

P 310

THE P-SERIES

Scania driveline options.

Scania Opticruise

Available throughout the P-series, Scania Opticruise is a fully automated gear-shifting system that saves on driveline wear, lowers fuel consumption and reduces driver fatigue. Opticruise means the clutch never need be disengaged during shifts and long-term dependability is improved through the elimination of shocks and torque reactions. Opticruise improves fuel consumption by choosing the optimum gear for the conditions - Opticruise takes into account engine revs, vehicle speed and engine load to choose the best gear. By reducing fuel consumption, Opticruise also reduces exhaust emissions. And by eliminating one of the most arduous and repetitive aspects of the driver’s job, Opticruise eases the workload behind the wheel, particularly in short-haul urban applications. Manual gearshifting not only requires an urban distribution driver to make hundreds of additional movements every day, it can also cause distractions, particularly in critical situations where attention is paramount. Scania Retarder

Fitted to the output end of the gearbox, the unique Scania Retarder provides an alternative to the service brakes and exhaust brake. It is independent of engine revs, and can be integrated with cruise control and Opticruise. Use of the Scania Retarder can reduce wear on tyres and preserve the service brakes in a cool condition for when they are really needed. In most applications, Scania Retarder combined with the exhaust brake can can accomplish around 75 per cent of all slowing and stopping, drastically reducing the workload on the service brakes. Scania axles

Scania offers both single reduction and hub reduction axles. The R780 single reduction axle is commonly fitted to 4x2 prime movers, while the R660 can be specified in most 4x2 and 6x2 rigid applications. The RB660 combines with the R660 for most on-road 6x4 prime movers and rigids. All three axle types are compact and low-tare while optimising payload and durability.

THE P-SERIES

Scania disc brakes with EBS Disc brakes with electronic braking (EBS) are standard on all Scania trucks with air suspension. Compared with drum brakes, disc brakes provide shorter braking distances, particularly after prolonged applications. EBS ensures braking is instantaneous, directly proportional to pedal pressure and perfectly balanced at each wheel. It greatly enhances stability in all braking conditions, and eliminates much of the stress of emergency stops. And because EBS is an intelligent system that can apportion precisely the right amount of braking force to each wheel, every brake pad wears evenly, drastically reducing downtime.
