IAN BRIGGS. Harmonica lan Briggs has been blowing harp for over 40 of his 57 years. It was Cyril Davies who inspired lan to play the blues harp. For several years he recorded with and accompanied several bands until he formed his own group, lan Briggs & The Supervampers. He also gave blues harmonica workshops during the years of the Gloucester Blues Festival. ln 1989, Ile won the British Harmonica Championship award sponsored by the National Harmonica League. During Blues Week, lan will be teaching beginning blues harp, covering ail aspects of playing.

DIZ WATSON. Piano/Keyboards Dil Watson's prime influence on the piano is the New Orleans gumbo style of barrel house, rhythm and blues, rock and roll and boogie woogie. This amalgam of styles reached their apotheosis in the late 1940s and early 50s with the playing of Fats Domino, Huey 'Piano' Smith to more contemporary musicians such as Dr. John, James Booker and Professor Longhair. Dil'S recording history date back to 1982 with the release of Blue(oat Man for Ace Records. For the workshop, Dil will give examples of 'left hand', 'right hand' techniques associated with the New Orleans style. Students must bring an individual portable keyboard. The ability to read music is not required.

DANA GILLESPIE. Vocals The EBA is proud to announce our special guest for this year, Dana Gillespie. Her career started in 1965 as a singer/songwriter when the first of her many singles was released on the Pye label. Since then she has recorded 40 albums. She also has numerous theatre, television and film appearances to her credit. Dana was voted Top British FemaJe Vo(alist by Blueprint from 1992 to 1996 when she was elevated to their Hall Of Fame. For Blues Week, Dana will be joining us for Thursday and Friday only. Her class will prepare students for our annual Blues Week finale, Student Talent Showcase. She will focus on vocal phrasing, proper breathing techniques as weil as performance and presentation.

ROGER CUDBY. Coordinator Roger Cudby has had many years experience as a broadcaster, educationalist, researcher and writer. He has also been a music presenter at the Glou(ester International Blues ald (ajua Festivals.

PAUL OLIVER. lecturer Paul Oliver is a leading writer and critic in the blues. He is the author of numerous authoritative works including The Story Of The Blues and Conversation With The Blues. Blues Feil This Morning, first published in 1960, is a pioneering study of the meaning of the blues that is still a recommended read. Paul has agreed to come down to Blues Week to be our special guest for a day.
