Derevo:  Reflection

Out of the mist, a motionless figure appears. The audience  holds their breath and waits. The dancer does eventually move,  but such tense moments of expectation reoccur throughout the  show.  This is not an easy piece to watch. Beautiful and innovative,  arguably to the point of being pretentious and self indulgent,  Reflection astounds, baffles and disturbs its viewers. The  vigorous and frenzied precision of Tanya Kharbarova's  movements is incredible as she imitates an insect, a bird, a  little girl. Although the soundtrack is rather reminiscent of  someone twiddling the reception dial on a radio while sitting in  the middle of a motorway, the excellent sound and lighting are  superbly atmospheric. Religious and astronomical symbolism,  bizarre rituals, growth and evolution all seem to be concerns of  Reflection, but the scenes are so cryptic and abstract that it's  hard to tell for sure.

Born  in  Leningradskiy  region. Tanya  Khabarova  studied  music and violin at  the  music Collage  of  Vyborg and  soon  realized  that  being a teacher  of  music  wasn’t  her  calling.  In  1987  she  enrolled  in  Palace  of  Young  Generation  in  S­Petersburg  and began  her  studies  in  the artistically  experimental  dance/theatre classes  of  Anton Adassinskiy. In  1988  she become  a  member  of  DEREVO Physical  Theatre  lead  by  A.Adassinskiy. As a member  of  DEREVO Tanya  has performed in  Austria, Brazil, China, Czech  Republic, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands,  Poland, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovenia and the U.S.A with a varied repertoire of  physical theatre performances. Tanya created and performs in all of DEREVO performances.  Awards:  1997  “Total  Theatr e  Awar d” Edinburgh  Festival  Fringe (Scotland).  With “RED ZONE”.  1998  “Fr inge  Fir st” and  “Her ald  Angel” Edinburgh  Festival  Fringe (Scotland). with  “ONCE”.  2000  “Pr ix du J ur y de Presse”  MIMOS (France).Performance “THE RIDER “.  “ Innovation  Pr ize “ by  Forum  Ludwig (Germany)  “ Kunstpr eis  Ber lin  2000”  Academy of the Arts (Germany)  “Pr emio a lo major  del teatr o” Asociacion Mexicana de Criticos (Mexico)  “Pr ix du J ur y de Presse” MIMOS (France).Performance “REFLECTION”.  2002  “Fr inge First” and “Total Theatr e awar d” Edinburgh Festival Fringe.  Performance “LA DIVINA COMMEDIA”.  2004  “Tap Water  Awar d” Edinburgh Festival Fringe (Scotland).
