Study of vibrational properties of clean and hydrogenated 6H-SiC(000) surfaces by HREELS Abstract : We have studied the vibrational properties of clean and hydrogenated 6H-SiC(0001) surfaces. This work was completed with a detailed examination of the secondary electrons emission. The (3x3) reconstruction is characterized by the presence of intense loss features, connected to Fuchs-Kliewer phonons excitation as well as the continuum of excitations due to the plasmon resulting from dopants. Exposed to atomic hydrogen, the reconstruction has been noted to disappearing. On the HREELS spectra, no losses are detected characteristic of Si-H and C-H bonds. On the (√3x√3)R30° reconstruction results are identical. The (6√3x6√3)R30° reconstruction stands out with an important constant background, which reveals the formation of a graphite layer with semi-metallic characteristics. This surface was unreactive to the atomic hydrogen. However, we have noticed that the secondary-electron structure was strongly affected by surface reconstructions and hydrogen exposure. This study has established the impacts of experimental parameters (measure angles and primary energy) on the secondary-electron emission. This work on secondary-electrons emission with low energy beam has presented noticeable results opening perspective for future studies.
