Fitting of the cup

The cup (6) is a part of the headset which is tight fitted at the base of the fork steerer. This part holds the lower roller bearing in the headset. So as to obtain a good overall operation, without causing any premature damage to the headset, the cup must be inserted at the base of the steerer until it comes into contact with the top and should be perfectly perpendicular to it. (It is recommended to use a press so as to insert the cup to the base of the fork steerer without deforming it).

2 Fitting of the lower roller bearing of the headset Fit the lower roller bearing (7) of the headset onto the fork steerer and position it above the cup. Caution: respect the bearing direction by checking that it fits correctly on the cup.

Fitting of the frame into the head tube

Make sure that the top and bottom roller bearing of the headset are correctly positioned above and below the frame. Gently fit the fork steerer into the frame (8) until the lower roller bearing is properly positioned in the lower cup of the headset. During this operation, the various parts should fit easily and it should not be necessary to press in, otherwise you might damage one of the parts.

4

Fitting of the upper part of the headset

Fit the various components of the top part of the headset into the fork steerer: position the top roller bearing (9) respecting its direction (it should fit correctly into the top cup).

5

Fitting of the top plate of the fork

Fit onto the fork steerer the top plate adapted to the height of the head tube of your bike.

Once the top plate (2) is fitted and in contact with the top cover of the headset, put the screw in (3) without tightening it completely allowing the top plate to be fitted to the fork head:

Fig.2 2

• If the fixing holes for the fork and the plate (2) are opposite each other and if it is possible to fit the screw, then screw it in without tightening.

4

• If the fixing holes for the top plate (2) and the fork are not opposite each other and it is impossible to fit the screw, there are two different possibilities:

Spacer

- The holes of the plate are below the holes of the head. In this case it is necessary to add a spacer between the top cover of the headset and the top plate of the fork. Insert a spacer with a height that allows the fixing holes of the top plate to be adjusted opposite those of the fork. Once this operation is completed, screw down the fixing screw of the plate without tightening it.

3

- The fixing holes of the plate are above the holes of the head. In this case, fit the top plate upside down (if the top plate is reversible ref. 2.A) or use a larger sized plate (2.B and 2.C). Fit the screw (4) into the top plate without fully tightening.

6

So as to allow a fine adjustment of the tightening of your headset clearance, we recommend that you use the 1-mm spacers delivered with the Vorace fork.

Cutting of the steerer

Caution: once the steerer is cut, it is no longer possible to adjust the height of the stem. So, if you wish to position your stem any higher, you can cut the steerer longer and then to compensate its length by fitting spacers between the top plate of the fork and the bracket. However, when you fit the spacers and the bracket make sure that the steerer is withdrawn by 3 to 5 mm in relation to the top of the stem and that the stem does not interfere with the fork (especially if it is horizontal or sloped downwards). Before mounting the stem on the steerer, it should be cut to the right length using the hacksaw:

Fig.3

• Measure the height H of your stem. (Fig.3)

H

Notice Vorace GB

Page 7

• Following this operation, cut the fork Steerer using a hacksaw so that the remaining part of the steerer measured from the top of the plate is a few mm less (3 - 5 mm) than the height H measured beforehand. (Fig.4)

Fig.4

H - 3 à 5 mm

When you fit the stem, make sure that the steerer is withdrawn by 3 to 5 mm in relation to the top of the stem.

7

Fitting the star

Fig.5 10

Once the steerer is cut to the right height, fit the star (10) 10 mm inside the steerer (Fig.5).

8 Fitting of the stem and tightening of the fork

Fig.6

Fit the stem (11), and if necessary the spacers above the top plate of the fork. Align it with the fork then position the top cap (12) of the headset above the steerer.

13

Tighten the cap with the tightening screw (13) provided for this purpose. (Fig.6)

12

During this operation, the tightening screw screws into the previously fitted star (10).

11

Tighten until the various parts are all in contact one on top of the other, but be careful not to block or damage the bearings in your steerer. All the parts are now in position and all you have to do is to tighten the two screws (3 and 4) for mounting the plate (the fixing screws on the fork head and the tightening screw on the fork steerer) as well as those of the stem.Recommended tightening torque: 10 Nm.

Mounting the brakes

9.1 Mounting of the V-Brake (To be more efficient, the brake pivots of models XC Comp and XC Sport have been mounted at the rear of the sheaths) CAUTION: It is therefore necessary to invert the pads mounted on the two jaws of the callipers.

Fig.7

Once this operation has been realised, mount the two parts of the calliper on the brake pivots by means of the two screws provided for that purpose. (Fig.7). Adjust the pads opposite the braking flanks of the hub. All you have to do then is to mount the cable and the sheath in the usual way being careful not to create any interference between it and the fork head.

CAUTION: Fit the sheath without sans creating any interference between it and the fork head. It is recommended to pass the sheath through the front of the fork head (between the shock absorber and the mountain bike frame) so that it cannot be jammed between the various parts of the fork while in operation (fig.9). Fix the end of the cable to the relevant calliper and adjust the tension.

9.2 Mounting of the disk brake Fig.8 5

The disk brake lug complies with international standards. It is therefore necessary to have a disk brake whose fixing system also complies with international standards or which has this type of adapter (Fig.8) Mount the calliper of the disk brake on the fixing lug and check that the disk mounted on the wheel is properly positioned between the two pads of the calliper.

CAUTION: Fit the oil tube without creating any interference between it and the fork head. It is recommended to pass the hose through the front of the fork head (between the shock absorber and the mountain bike frame) so that it is not jammed between the various parts of the fork while in operation (Fig.9) Position the oil tube (5, Fig.8) at the required height on the sheath containing the brake calliper and pass the hose inside. All you have to do now is adjust the distance between the pads.

Verification of the headset

When applying the front brake and rolling the bike backwards and forwards make sure there is no clearance between the fork and the head tube. If there is some clearance loosen the stem and the top plate and tighten the tightening screw of the top cap of the headset. Retighten the top plate and the stem, and check the clearance again in the same manner as before. If there is still some clearance, dismount and then remount the fork following the instructions from the beginning. If the clearance persists, your headset is perhaps damaged, so get in touch with your dealer.

RECOMMENDATIONS See enclosed document for adjustment of the shock absorbers.

Adjustment of the travel 80 mm 100 mm

It is strongly recommended to have this adjustment done by your dealer. Release your shock absorber before adjusting the travel.
