Profitable Forestry

Tradition and Innovation

Sampo Rosenlew Ltd has a long tradition of the manufacture of agricultural implements in Finland. The privately owned limited company is renowned for its high-quality and cost-effective products. Serial production of forest harvesters was started in 1996.

The Sampo Rosenlew forest harvesters are ideal for forest thinning. They do not harm thinning forests as sturdier forest machinery does. Our forest harvester range has two models: the SR 1046 X which is developed to thin young forests, and the heavier and more powerful SR 1066. The design and manufacture of the Sampo Rosenlew forest harvester is customized to meet the individual needs of our customers. The Company has invested heavily in its manufacture and assembly processes to fulfil the ever growing market demand and increasing quality requirements.

Expertise in Forest Thinning

Forest thinning is done in young and dense forests. In the design of the Sampo Rosenlew forest harvester top priority has been given to the harvester´s suitability for thinning. The four-wheeled harvester with articulated steering is extremely nimble. The joint, short wheelbase and wide steering angle enable an amazingly small turning radius and provide excellent agility. Efficient hydraulic traction motors and a self-supporting  joint ensure unrivalled mobility in most demanding terrain. Environmentally Conscious Forestry The small dimensions of the SR 1046 X guarantee that the harvester is agile and eco-friendly - simply ideal for first thinning of forest. A lightweight harvester does not harm the roots of the remaining stand of forest as heavy harvesters do. The measurements such as the weight and track width of the harvester are large enough to ensure stability of the base machine in forest thinning. The large contact surface of the tires reduces the load on the ground. It is essential for forest productivity that the remaining stand of forest stays healthy and undamaged. This important notion has been the starting point for the design and development of the Sampo Rosenlew forest harvester. A thinning harvester must be nimble. A narrow and short harvester moves effortlessly in forest. The turning radius of the SR 1046 X harvester is only 4.5 metres.

Cost-effectiveness Benefits the Contractor According to the latest research publications* on thinning harvesters the costs of first thinning done on a Sampo Rosenlew 1046 X harvester are lower than those done on sturdier harvesters. This is due to the considerably low purchasing and running costs of our forest harvester. When handling small trunks the output efficiency of the Sampo Rosenlew 1046 X harvester is much higher than that of sturdier machines. * Published by Työtehoseura, (FIN) ISBN: 951 - 788 - 343 - 9 951 - 788 - 304-4

Reliability is Our First Priority

Above all, a harvester must work

reliably. Well-organized product planning and quality control as well as high-quality components that have been carefully tested ensure the reliable operation of the Sampo Rosenlew harvester. With idle time kept to a minimum, profitability stays high to benefit both the forest owner and the contractor. Besides being nimble, the SR 1066 is both powerful and efficient in handling timber. The harvester is mainly intended for thinning, but it also performs well in final felling.

Thinning Power Just like the SR 1046 X , the new SR 1066 harvester can be equipped with the latest PC based controlling and measuring technology as well as the GPS and data transfer systems. As the support points of the harvester are wide apart and the crane centre of gravity low down, the 13,000 - 16,000 kg (depending on the options) forest harvester handles even heavier trunks easily and efficiently.

Research and Development Play a Key Role Sampo Rosenlew Ltd works in close cooperation with manufacturers and suppliers of equipment and components. Our customers benefit from the synergy achieved in the production of all the Sampo Rosenlew products as this guarantees even quality and competitive prices. Uncomplicated components and constructions improve reliability of the machine. They also facilitate troubleshooting and servicing – both made easy for the operator. The productivity of the machine stays high with the number of idle hours kept to a minimum.

Profitable Wo od Handling

The crane is located at the very front of the base machine, which means that its whole reach can be

utilized. The crane on the SR 1046 X tilts sideways. This facilitates working in thinning forest. The crane on the SR 1066 is mounted on a crane base that tilts lengthwise. Precise M easuring Technology The core of wood handling is a measuring device that controls the harvesting head. Sampo Rosenlew uses measuring devices made in Finland. Several labour-saving functions can be programmed in the measuring device with different settings for each operator. Different settings for different types of wood maximize raw material efficiency. The measuring device is connected to the control modules with a CAN bus. The measuring device calculates the volume of the different wood handled. All the data are saved and can be printed out and forwarded wirelessly. The Sampo Rosenlew machines have components manufactured by Finnish companies.

Flexible Forest H arvesting Crane handling on the SR 1046 X is of superb standard in thinning forest. A side-tilting crane can reach trees further away than a fixed crane, and it does not harm the stand of forest but leaves the trees healthy and undamaged. Depending on the type of crane, crane lengths range between 6.1 and 7.1 metres. The crane can be equipped with an automatic side tilt stabilizer system.

Reach the unreachable with Sampo - Rosenlew Forest Harvester Cylinder control tilts the crane on the SR 1066 in the direction of the longitudinal axis. Tilting facilitates working on slopes and in uneven terrain. Due to a tilting crane base, the crane can be positioned lengthwise horizontally. This eases gripping on the trunks and saves the crane and the harvesting head thus extending their lifetimes. The reach of the SR 1066 cranes range between 9.5 and 10.5 metres depending on the crane type.

The side tilt of the crane enables gripping on trunks that a fixed crane would not reach. Selected trunks are easy to harvest without harming the stand of forest.

Space and Comfort

The cab on the Sampo Rosenlew forest harvester is spacious and comfortable. The cab is on the front

frame, far from the hydraulic pumps and the engine. The curved windscreen and the high cab provide unhindered all-round visibility over the trees round the machine. The controls are ergonomically within easy reach of the operator. Excellent All-round Visibility

The large windows provide excellent all-round visibility round the machine, which is extremely important on a forest harvester. The eff icient air conditioning and heating system keeps the cab temperature at a pleasant level. All Sampo Rosenlew harvesters come with air conditioning and a CD/ radio as standard. The operator stays attentive and alert in a comfortable working environment, which keeps productivity high. Visibility from the cab is excellent over the sides and wheels of the harvester. There is plenty of space above the operator to give him a good view of even the highest treetops.

Comfortable Working Environment The cab windows on both the harvester models can be equipped with solar curtains to reduce solar heat in the cab. A pre-heating system can be used to heat the cab to the right temperature before starting work. The SR 1066 cab can be equipped with an automatic stabilizer system to keep the cab balanced with the harvester tilted. A sensor measures harvester tilt and conveys the information to the control unit that controls the cab tilt cylinders.

Solar curtains reduce thermal radiation efficiently. The cab stays cool and pleasant using minimal cooling. This reduces the fuel consumption.
