Nankang will Launche intelligent Motorcycle Tire « back to last page

| Created: March 29, 2011 01:13:00 PM At the Intermot exhibition, held in the German city of Cologne, Nankang Rubber Tire has shown off its first-ever motorcycle tyre. Aimed at the growing sport touring segment, the radial Roadiac WF-1 is said to be the product of three years’ intensive joint development work between Nankang and Delticom/Pnebo.

In order to enhance stability the zero degree belting system used in the Roadiac WF-1 utilises a principle that Nankang refers to as the ‘Jointless Space Belt’, or JLSB, in connection with a ‘Single Steel Winding System’. The Intermot motorcycle show in Cologne hosted the world premiere of Nankang's motorcycle tyre range Delticom reports that stability and high casing rigidity compared with traditional construction techniques is said to facilitate the highest level of stability in every riding situation, perfect driver feedback, confident handling and optimal tyre operating temperatures. The tread pattern is designed to optimise water drainage in wet conditions in order to improve aquaplaning resistance, Delticom adds. The Roadiac utilises dual tread compound technology. As Delticom comments, previously a decision had to be made between a motorcycle tyre with a soft compound for good grip or one with a more resistant compound for longevity. The Rodiac’s dual compound offers both qualities within the one tyre, Delticom reports. The softer compound – accounting for 20 per cent of the shoulder area on the front tyre and 40 per cent on the rear –is intended to increase road holding and reduce warm-up times while offering improved traction when accelerating out of banking. The center of the front tyre contains 60 per cent of the harder compound and the rear tyre 20 per cent. The Nankang Roadiac WF-1 will be the first tire available, but an inovative high technology "intelligent" tire will be available "in a couple of months". This tire will combine temperature analysis, micro voltage current and (that's the most impressive) chemical reaction !! How will it work, and if it does, how is it going to revolutionize the world of motorcycle tire ? This tire will be an "one does all for everyone". Depending on the outside, road and tire temperature, and the choice of the rider, the hardness or softness of the tire will change during the ride ! A small electronic control box, fitted instead of the balancing weight, will receive instruction from the rider. Imagine, you're one your R1, heading towards the alps, but you have 600 miles of highway travel before that. You enter "highway" on the handlebar remote, and in a few minutes, the tire goes from soft to hard compound, allowing you to ride you journey without damaging your tire. Arriving in the alps, you stop at the hotel, drop your stop, enter "sporty ride" on the remote, and in the time to sign up for your room, your bike now has some soft sport tires. You're going home and have a trackday on the way back, a race set up will allow you to change your initially hard tire to a very soft racing tire. The hardness or softness of the tire will also depend on the temperature! the tire will be softer on a 20°c day than on a 35°c day. This should let you have only one set of tire, and still use your bike for travel, everyday commuting,
