1st March 2008 Dear Parents, Here we go again with another new theme on “sea animals”, for the children to explore. This is a very interesting topic for the young ones as it involves learning through fun and excitement. Through this unit, the children will develop a better understanding on types of sea animals, their natural habitats and activities under the sea. At School Some highlights of this theme include: * Stories about sea animals * Names of sea animals, their colours and special features (e.g. fins, shells, tentacles, etc.) * Songs and games like actions and sounds of sea animals * Different parts of a fish * Making crafts and models of sea animals with papers and/or play-dough * Experiencing and learning that sea water is salty and we get our salt from the sea and that salt water helps animals like sharks, stingrays, octopuses to float. Passport to the World We are still be traveling to China, an exotic, unique and exciting country. We will be discussing various things like China’s places of interests, how to use chopsticks to eat Chinese food, flag of China and its folktales. We will discover the story of Chinese New Year and Chinese calligraphy. If you have any memorabilia on calligraphy or books on Chinese folktales, your child can bring to school to share with his/her friends. At Home Some things to do with your child to foster the concepts of this unit: • Look at pictures of sea animals in magazines and books • Go on a family trip to an aquarium • Take some photographs for your child to keep and share with his/her classmates • Creating or making an aquarium at home Happy Birthday to: Tsubasa Sudo Leysha Misra Alex Liu Eric Dobson Antoine Warnery Aidan Pang Koh Jing Yuan
