MASTER STUDENT for the joint project Investigation of polymer microstructure (tacticity) influence on the small molecules diffusion therein of Professor Pierre Lutz, Institut Charles Sadron (ICS), Strasbourg, France Professor Bartsch, Institute of Physical Chemistry, Freiburg, Germany under the direct supervision of doctoral student Vasilii Lesnichii

NEEDED Requirements • Solid background (Bachelor degree) in Macromolecular Chemistry/Organic Chemistry • Good English speaking skills • An interest and readiness to stay in Strasbourg for an extended period and to travel between Freiburg and Strasbourg. Preferably • Strong interest in optics, optomechanics (engineering) • Strong interest in photochemistry • Good skills in software packages: Origin, Zotero (EndNote, Mendeley), TopSpin (Mnova) and searching engines: SciFinder (Reaxys) • Readiness to keep on future projects in the same field Responsibilities • Polymer synthesis via ionic/coordination polymerization (Strasbourg) • Forced Rayleigh Scattering measurements (Freiburg) • Characterization (GPC, DSC, UV/VIS spectroscopy, 1H and 13C-NMR (including solid state), MALDI-TOF) (Strasbourg and Freiburg) This interdisciplinary Franco-German project is devoted to the investigation of polymer microstructure (tacticity) influence on the small molecules diffusion therein. 2 months (in a row) are planned for stay in Germany, in the lab of Prof. Bartsch under the supervision of doctoral student Vasilii Lesnichii, where the principles of Forced Rayleigh Scattering (FRS) measurement technique will be learned and the process of photochemical attachment of phenanthrenequinone to poly(4-methylstyrene) will be investigated in details. 2-2.5 months – in Strasbourg, ICS under the supervision of Prof. P. Lutz, where synthesis of poly(4methylstyrene) polymer with different tacticities is to be performed.
