Background • Mandrillus sphinx a terrestrial primate living in Gabon was reported naturally infected by two types of SIVmnd : • SIVmnd type 1 related to the SIVL’hoest lineage • SIVmnd type 2 recombinant, related to SIVrcm in gag and pol and SIVmnd type 1 in env

Phylogenetic relationship of SIVmnd type 1 and SIVmnd type 2 isolated from mandrills to other primate lentiviruses. The tree was derived by neighbour-joining analyses of aminoacids.

Objectives • 1 To compare SIVmnd type 1 and type 2 mono-infection. • 2 To study super-infection by the two types of SIVmnd.

Material • Mono-infection : all the mandrills were infected by inoculation of plasma stock (PS/J11) obtained at pic of viral load of two others mandrills (J11) • Super-infection : 4 mandrills mono-infected by both type (2 by type 1, 16E&16D and 2 by type 2, 5F&2C3), after two years, were inoculated with plasma stock PS/J11 (2 by type 2, 16E&16D and 2 by type 1, 5F&2C3) to cross infection.

Methods • Viral Load: we performed RT-PCR, with specific primers corresponding of both SIVmnd type 1 and type 2, on serial dilution of plasma (1/5, 1/25, 1/125)

• Immunological markers: blood cells were marked with CD3, CD4, CD8, CD28, CD45RA, CD20 and counted using flux cytometer (FACScalibur)
