Unzip and put the JMatch_Sort folder into the source folder of Hot Potatoes. Windows: C:\Program files\HotPotatoes6\source\ Mac: Applications\ javahotpot\

2. Load the interface file Open a new JMatch. Click on

Options->Interface->Load interface file.

It will help you with instructions through the interface.

A dialogue box will ask you if you would like to change the interface for all applications. Choose “No“.

You will immediately notice the change:

(For instructions how to reset the interface to the default, see 5 Resetting the interface)

On the left are the ‘Categories’, on the right are the Draggable (jumbled) items. For each Category put one Item for this category. For example, if you want four Categories (1-4) with three Items in each category (A, B, C): Category 1 -

Your JMatch will look something like this:

- You can also Fix one or more draggable items. 3. Configuration options 3.1. Appearance tab Go to

Configuration->Appearance

tab

Here you can specify: -

the background colour of the headings of the Categories

-

the background colour of wrong items. This is also the link colour.

-

the background colour of the Category boxes. To make the boxes the same colour as your page background, put the colour of the page background.

3.2. Shuffling and showing a limited number of items Go to

Configuration->Other

tab

-

You may choose to shuffle the Categories each time the page loads. The draggable Items are always shuffled.

-

You may choose to show only a certain number of Items each time the page loads. It happens that sometimes Items from fewer categories (2 or 3 out of 4 or more) are chosen randomly, therefore not all Categories will show in the exercise – do NOT worry, this is NOT a bug, but expected behaviour.

-

If you have a Fixed Item, it may be that the item is not chosen among the random Items and therefore it will not show - do not panic, this is NOT a bug either.

3.3. Width and Height of Categories (Optional) and Practice/Test mode Go to

-

Configuration->Custom

tab

(Optional) Height of Category boxes – the Category boxes are tall enough to hold the ‘correct’ number of Items in the biggest Category. If you need larger (or smaller)

boxes, set the value here. -

(Optional) Width of Category boxes – If you leave it empty, the width of the boxes will be the width of the length of the longest string of text. If you want different width of the

Categories boxes, set a value. -

Enable Practice mode with auto-highlighting of wrong items – Choose between Test mode and Practice mode. If empty, the default mode is Test. In Practice mode the wrongly positioned Items are automatically highlighted. To enable Practice mode with automatic highlighting, write 1 or true.
