Swift Publisher tutorial - Reflection effect in 7 easy steps

1. Add a text box Firstly, we need something to reflect. So, we are going to type some words (using a Bold/Black font as it seems doing the best results (here, I've used Impact)).

Reflection 2. Duplicate Serious things (?) begin here. Select this new text box then duplicate it. You may use Cmd-D shortcut, Ctrl-click to open Contextual menu or Edit>Duplicate menu item.

Reflection Reflection 3. Convert Text to image To be able to do the 4th step (be patient ;^), we need to convert the duplicated text box to an image (rasterize it). Just select it then Ctrl-click to open Contextual menu and choose Convert Text to Image. As there's no way to edit text converted to image, be sure to check spelling before converting it.

4. Flip horizontally To make this duplicated and converted to image text box looks as a reflection, the next step is, simply, to use Flip horizontally from the Geometry inspector (this is why we've needed to convert text to image as flipping text box is impossible (unfortunately)). Let us align the two objects horizontally then move the flipped one near the original text box so the whole looks like this.

Reflection 5. Apply Mask To make this reflection more realistic, we are going to mask the image making the reflection fades away. We need a mask that make the top of the letters more transparent than the bottom, so we are going to use the “Gradient Bottom” one from the inspector Image tab (this is the first one at the top left of the masks collection.

6. Cropping reflection An even more realistic way to simulate reflection is to crop the top of the letter as a more precise way to control the “diffusion”. Caution here, as we've flipped the “reflection” object (see step #4), we have to move the top of the object (so the bottom of the letters), not the bottom when using the Crop tool.

Reflection 7. Adjust opacity As a final touch, we may adjust opacity of the reflection (here, I've set it to 50%).

Reflection Be sure to use the Opacity setting from the inspector Image tab in a way to adjust the overall opacity of this object, not the one from the Fill & Shadow tab as this one is for the fill color (if used as in this example).
