Information on Equipment

The international Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea (IMO 72 COLREGS) form the international basis for legal lighting on vessels with overall lengths of < 20 m. However supplementary national regulations entailing divergencies or restrictions on these must also be observed. The following pages provide information on the lighting equipment which can be carried in order to meet legal repuirements. Model 8534 More light, less power consumption and gas discharge bulbs with 5 times the service life of halogen bulbs. Thanks to the new D2S Xenon bulb in combination with a FF reflector, the Xenon deck floodlight has a light output hitherto unachieved by other flood lights – leading to a greater range and an extremely wide deck illumination. In addition, the Xenon deck floodlight does not place such a strain on the electrical system (power consumption is a mere 35 W) unlike conventional deck floodlights. Operation temperature range – 40°C to +105°C (body), lamp swivel range vertically 105° and horizontally 360°.

The most important characteristics of the Xenon deck floodlight ◗ The FF reflector provides homogenous illumination over an extremely large area; in contrast to the narrow “spotlight” light distribution of gas discharge lamps with conventional paraboloid reflectors. ◗ 2.5 times the light intensity of a deck lamp with a 55 W halogen bulb (example: series 8517). ◗ Only 35 W power consumption – lower current requirements, less strain on the boat electrical system, more light. ◗ A gas discharge bulb with 5 times the service life of a halogen bulb. ◗ Shock-proof light arc instead of an easily breakable coiled filament; no sudden power failure. ◗ Daylight-like light colour for natural depiction of the surrounding area; therefore less exhaustive. ◗ Brightness is independent of supply voltage fluctuations. ◗ Very robust unit for use in rough conditions.

Circuit Breaker Module With the growing trend for boats to fit more and more electronics, especially in smaller powerboats, the need arose for a simple device for isolating a second battery and electronics from harmful engine starting spikes. The VSR (Voltage Sensitive Relay) makes this possible, while allowing two or more batteries to be charges at the same time. The relay stays open when the engine is first started and remains open during charging until the battery has reached a preset voltage (13.7 V). The relay then closes, allowing the two batteries to be charged together. When the engine is stopped, the voltage returns to normal levels, which allows the relay to open again, separating the two batteries, eliminating the possibility of discharging the wrong battery.

Hella Marine long-life bulbs are a special development from Hella, with the objective of significantly reducing failure frequency compared to boat bulbs of earlier design. Halogen bulbs and florescent bulbs are the best light source for boats with limited power capacity. In comparison to conventional bulbs they help save energy while providing the same light, or more light consuming the same power with longer service life.

28 V Halogen Bulbs 28 V Halogen bulbs have solved the problem of premature failure of 24 V halogen bulbs in 24 V electrical systems. Due to the battery charging voltage, the voltage in the electrical system increases to approx. 28 V while in operation or connected to mains. This affects 24 V halogen bulbs in two ways: ● drastic reduction of service life ● significant lamp overheating

Xenon

This dangerous lamp overheating is approx 25% for a 24 V halogen bulb at a power consumption of 28 V. Moreover, the higher the bulb power the greater the sensitivity to vibration. The service life of a bulb can be increased by providing it with voltage reserves and high capacity.

What does IP degree of protection mean? The IP degrees of protection are determined by DIN 40050 part 9. IP stands for International Protection.
