QUALITY STANDARDS All Crewsaver Lifejackets, Buoyancy Aids, Harnesses and Safety Lines are fully approved and CE Marked.
What is required ? All Crewsaver Lifejackets carry an EN (European Standard) number EN395 for 100N Lifejackets, EN396 for 150N Lifejackets and EN399 for 275N Lifejackets. These standards, which also have the status of British Standards, are intended to ensure that all Lifejackets sold in this country meet very stringent requirements regarding the design, performance, materials and components used and even give guidelines regarding the information to be provided to the customer about the Lifejacket.
Safety Harnesses EN 1095 The CEN Standard is based on three main reasons for wearing a deck Safety Harness, e.g. to secure the wearer on deck, prevent them from falling into water and to assist their recovery back onto the deck. They are not intended to prevent falls from a height. The Standard also states that in the case of a combined Lifejacket and Safety Harness, both elements must be tested and have separate CE Approval.
MED Directive This is the equivalent of the CE Standard for Lifejackets, that must be applied to all SOLAS equipment for use on commercial vessels. Approval to this directive is represented by the ships wheel.
ISO 9001 Crewsaver is approved by Lloyds Register Quality of Assurance to ISO 9001 the scope of which includes the design and manufacture of marine safety equipment. Part of being an ISO 9001 company requires that during the manufacturing stage, critical materials including all components (inflator material, inflation head, components of harness and webbing) are batch recorded. This enables each individual component to be targeted and isolated, should a Quality Control Manager not be 100% certain that it is safe for production use.
How is quality controlled during the manufacturing process? At Crewsaver the manufacture of life saving equipment is never taken lightly. As legislation toughens, Crewsaver are always one step ahead to ensure that the final product supplied to you is above the basic level of quality required. Testing is continuous throughout the manufacturing cycle of each inflatable Lifejacket. For example the inflation chambers of the Lifejackets are manufactured in batches. The first inflator from each batch is subjected to a test whereby it is inflated manually to a specified pressure, the equivalent of a double inflation. When might a Lifejacket double inflate when in real use? On sensing danger, and as a precaution, the wearer might inflate the Lifejacket by mouth. If the wearer then enters the water, and the Lifejacket is automatically operated, the CO2 cylinder would then discharge into the inflator, thus causing a double inflation. On completion of the batch each inflator is inflated to 3lb/sq inch and must maintain that pressure for 30 minutes. After the inflators have been sewn into the Lifejackets, the completed Lifejackets are passed to our Packing Department where they are subjected to a further inflation test of 30 minutes at 3lb/sq inch. Finally each Lifejacket is carefully inspected for any minor flaws or imperfections before it is packed ready to send out.

All Relative Atlantic Row In April 2005 Crewsaver agreed to assist a group of four young lads in their challenge to row about 2,937 miles, as the crow flies, from La Gomera (Canary Islands) to Antigua (West Indies). Only once before has a foursome attempted this and “All Relative” hope to beat the record set by “Queensgate” of 36 days and 1 hour. In addition, if they complete the race, then Martin Adkin will become the youngest ever to complete the crossing. All Relative are fund-raising for the RNLI as well as for the challenge. And to assist with the voyage Crewsaver donated a Crewfit Lifejacket, Dry Towel and Dry Bag to each member.

Crewsaver Air Only Lifejackets have high frequency welded polyurethane coated nylon inflation chambers. These are individually leak tested twice prior to leaving the factory and are designed to withstand inflation by mouth and then by gas cylinder (double inflation NOT RECOMMENDED). They can either be manually or automatically inflated by a CO2 gas cylinder, depending on the type of mechanism fitted. Take a look at the picture opposite; we have highlighted the most important features. NOTE: When wearing foul weather clothing air is often trapped causing the wearer to surface quickly and float on their back. This may cause slow or non-activation of the Lifejacket inflator. As the air escapes from the clothing, or if the individual rolls over face down, then the inflator will operate to deploy the Lifejacket and return the individual to a safe position. If the wearer is unhappy floating on the surface but without the Lifejacket inflated, then the manual inflation toggle can be pulled.

All Crewsaver Air Only Lifejackets can be manually inflated, by the pull of a lanyard. This option allows the wearer to swim without the Lifejacket being activated automatically. This can be useful if you expect to wade when launching or tending to craft in calm waters.
This inflation option is available on most Crewsaver Air Only Lifejackets and provides an alternative to the Hammar Mechanism. Inflation occurs automatically when the paper retaining collar dissolves on contact with water.

The Hammar Inflator gives excellent protection from random activation caused by moisture, rain or wave splash. This is achieved by protecting the water sensitive element with a hydrostatic valve, which operates when submerged in over 10cm of water and, depending upon the Lifejacket style, held there for between 2 to 3 seconds.

Load Indicator option Crewsaver Safety Lines can be bought with a Load Indicator. The Indicator is designed to activate when the line is placed under an excessive load, in the range of 7000 to 9000 Newtons. On such occasions a flag will break and a warning label will be deployed immediately. Because the webbing is not cut the safety line will, of course, still function, but after the indicator has been activated the Safety Line should be replaced as soon as possible.

Owain Matthews Class: Optimist and 420’s Since getting into the World Team Owain has had his ups and downs. He was unfortunate at the 2005 Inlands to have only three races, but still managed third overall. The United 4 event at Muiderzand was also close with Owain winning the event. The rest of the Team were in the top 10 and this event was the trials for the Dutch World Team. The team flew out to Denmark and chartered boats for the Danish Nationals which was attended by teams from USA, Germany, Poland, Ireland. The event had light weather with the Danes in First and Second with Owain in Third. Care and Maintenance Instructions for Drysuits To prolong the operational lifetime of your Drysuit, the instructions below should be followed.
Trimming Latex Seals On all Crewsaver Drysuits the latex neck and wrist seals can be trimmed to suit the individuals requirements. It is important to follow the comprehensive instructions that are provided with each Drysuit purchased.
✗ DO NOT: ● Clean your Drysuit in a washing machine. This causes the seals to deteriorate and will eventually lead to them becoming sticky and needing to be replaced.
Breathable Hyperdry Suitable for all performance watersports this Hyperdry model is our best so far. It is fully breathable and extremely flexible. High wear areas have been reinforced and adjustable secondary covers for seals (over cuffs) provide ample protection from damage and UV rays. The risk of damage and injury caused by capsize is greatly reduced by Crewsavers Mast Float. Designed in conjunction with sailing centres in both the UK and abroad, the float attaches to the top of the mast and provides 9 litres or 40 litres of buoyancy, greatly reducing the chance of the mast sinking and the boat fully inverting.
(Crewsaver Mast Floats do not guarantee to stop a boat inverting. The Mast Floats performance will be hindered by conditions of strong tide, wind or swell or incorrect safety procedure). N.B. Not suitable for boats without anchoring points.
