Use your Magic Whip and other weapons if you want to make it out of the castle alive!

Classic NES Series: Castlevania by Chris Buffa

Go back to the humble beginnings of Konami's classic series... on the GBA! Game Rating: One-Minute Review: Nintendo's Classic NES Series has some new additions, most notable the original Castlevania. As Simon Belmont, you'll travel deep within Dracula's castle in search of the blood-sucking fiend, but to reach him you'll have to beat back wave after wave of his minions. Zombies, bats, eagles, the grim reaper, and fish men are only a few of the horrors you'll have to face, but you'll be armed to the teeth with whips, daggers, and fire bombs! The 8-bit classic has aged gracefully, and while its graphics don't compare to the more modern Castlevania games, the gameplay is still very solid, and is something fans will definitely want to sink their teeth into.

The Score: + Perfect port of the NES classic + Gameplay is simplistic compared to other Castlevania games, but is still a lot of fun +/- Graphics and sound are dated, but that's part of the game's nostalgic appeal

Bottom Line: Out of the latest batch of Classic NES games, Castlevania is easily the best. It's not as spectacular as Harmony of Dissonance or Aria of Sorrow, but how could it be? Bottom line: even after all these years, the original Castlevania delivers, and you should buy it just to see the genesis of this long-standing series.
