SECOND CIRCULAR
Meeting in memory of Jacques ANGELIER Thursday, november 17th 2011
Faults :
Why ? Where ? How ?
Organising committee: Olivier Lacombe, Françoise Bergerat et Jean-Paul Cadet Jacques Angelier, professor at UPMC since 1981, passed away on January 2010. Jacques built his national and international scientific reputation on the study of active and ancient faults and their (seismo)tectonic interpretation in terms of crustal stresses, using techniques of inversion of slip data. He founded a French school of brittle tectonics and paleostress analyses. In his memory, his former students, colleagues and friends organize a meeting on faults under the patronage of the French Academy of Sciences, the Pierre & Marie Curie University and the French Geological Society, with the support of the Taiwan National Science Council, the GéoAzur and ISTeP geological departments, the International Laboratory ADEPT, and TOTAL. This one-day meeting, will be held in UPMC amphitheater 25 (4, place Jussieu, Paris 5e - métro Jussieu) from 8h00 to 18h30, on Thursday, November 17th, 2011 (see map at back page). It will provide the opportunity to re-assess our knowledge on faults, from a regional point of view, as well as on recent progress in their geometrical, kinematic and mechanical analyses. About 130 participants will attend the meeting. Two main types of talks are scheduled : scientific communications (50 talks/posters) and some more « personal » testimonies. The program includes four main oral blocks: Seismotectonics and seismic hazard Fault and fracture mechanisms Taiwan Faults and Geodynamics And three invited conferences: François Cornet (EOST, Strasbourg) : On the absence of present day tectonic component in the Paris Basin regional stress field Agust Gudmundsson (Royal Holloway, University of London): Thermodynamic aspects of the development of fracture networks Richard Lisle (School of Earth and Ocean Sciences, University of Cardiff): A critical look at the Wallace-Bott hypothesis in fault-slip analysis Registered participants will be invited for lunch at the 24th floor of the Zamansky Tower. The final program and the abstracts will be available for downloading from November, 1st, 2011 on the SGF website (http://sgfr.free.fr/). Each registered participants will also receive a volume of abstracts. After the meeting, a special issue in English of the Bulletin de la Société Géologique de France will be edited. Manuscripts can be submitted from now until December, 31st, 2011. For more information, contact Olivier Lacombe:
