1 General Information The vibration Recorder MR2002-16CE is a compact, three channel velocity recorder with 16 Bit resolution, which can operate on a stand alone basis or be linked in a network with the Network Control Center NCC2002. The instrument consists of a triaxial Sensor Unit MS2003 or three single axes Sensor Units MS2003H/V and a Data Acquisition Unit. Both are housed in rugged aluminum casings which aresplash proof. The instrument detects vibration events and records them on a digital memory card. The data may be downloaded onto a portable computer in the field for immediate evaluation or the memory card can be removed and forwarded to a central location for analysis. Data may also be transferred via modem to any location over public or dedicated telephone lines. The instrument may be configured for diverse civil engineering applications by defining the measurement parameters (e.g. trigger level, pre-event, postevent time, etc.), the measurement mode (e.g. event, RMS, dynamic trigger, etc.) via a standard PC. Four LED indicators and a liquid crystal display inform the user of the instrument’s current status and activities. The instrument can be powered by a line source (115 / 230 VAC, 50/60 Hz) or in remote locations by a 24/12 VDC source. An internal rechargeable lead-acid battery ensures continuous operation for more than 48 hours in the event of power interruptions. Recorded data is stored in compact files which may be analyzed with the COM2002 / VIEW2002 software package. Data can also be translated to ASCII and other formats for analysis with other software packages.

2 Preparation for Use The MR2002-16CE is shipped in a heavy duty transportation casing. The casing contains the following items: 1. MR2002 recording unit 2. MS2003 triaxial sensor 3. Mounting plate for MS2003 triaxial sensor (optional) 4. Power cable 5. Sensor cable 6. RS-232 cable To prepare the MR2002-16CE for use proceed as follows: 1. Place the MR2002 recording unit on a safe surface 2. Place the triaxial sensor at the desired location. The sensor must be placed on a horizontal surface. 3. Connect the power cable. The appropriate plug on the MR2002 is labeled „230V/115V“. 4. Connect the recording unit with the sensor unit using the sensor cable. The appropriate plug on the MR2002 is labeled „Sensor“. 5. Connect the recording unit with your PC using the RS-232 cable. The appropriate plug on the MR2002 is labeled „RS-232“.

6. Push the red button on the frontpanel of the recording unit to switch the MR2002 on. The MR2002 is booting now; the green LED goes on and of and the LCD display shows the version number of the program installed. After about ten seconds the green light flashes and the LCD display cycles through the most important settings. The MR2002-16CE is now operating. The installation of the software from the CD-ROM is done automatically. Just start SETUP.EXE in the subdirectory COM and VIEW on the CD-ROM. Follow now the manual for COM2002 in this binder. Chapter 3 „A quick tour of COM2002“ provides a short introduction into the use of the COM2002 program.

3 Technical Description 3.1 Functional description The MR2002-16CE is a compact triaxial vibration recorder. The instrument consists of a Sensor Unit MS2003 and a Data Acquisition Unit MR2002. Both are housed in rugged aluminum casings which are splash proof. The instrument detects vibration events and records them on an internal memory card. The data can be downloaded to a PC. To configure the instrument the MR2002 is linked to a PC via the RS-232 cable. With the use of the program COM2002 the working parameters (e.g. trigger, recording time, etc.) can be set and the recorded data can be downloaded to the PC. The program COM2002 is primarily designed to communicate with the MR2002. i.e. to set the working parameters, to inspect specific recordings and to transfer recorded data to the PC. It has also a limited data analysis capability. VIEW2002 is the data evaluation software for the MR2002. It is a high level tool to view and analyze the data recorded by the MR2002 which have been transferred using the COM2002 program.

3.2.5 LED Indicators Power :
green LED On: The MR is powered from an external source Off: The MR runs from the internal battery
Run:
green LED Always off: Unit is switched off. Short pulse every 2 seconds: Unit is switched on and operating in normal recording mode. Two short pulses every 2 seconds: Unit is switched on, background recording active Long pulse every second: Turn on delay. Flashing: Internal EEPROM is being programmed Always on: Unit is currently running a system or periodic test (duration depends on size of memory (e.g. 5 mins for 2 MByte)
Recording:
yellow LED Always off: No events have been recorded Always on: The MR2002 is currently recording an event Pulsating: The number of pulses within a ten second period indicates the amount of memory space is used (e.g. 5 consecutive flashes = 50 % memory used) 10
Error:
red LED Always off: The MR2002 is operating properly Pulsating every 5 seconds: The MR2002 is operating, but a warning flag is set. Pulsating every second: The operation of MR2002 is suspended due to an error
