QUICK USER GUIDE First download and install DiskAid and launch the application.

DiskAid Main Window (Mac OS X Version)

1. Connect your device – if FileApp is installed on your device and your are upgrading DiskAid from a previous version, DiskAid might need to move some folders, this operation might take some time but should happen once only. Do not disconnect during this operation. 2. The DiskAid window opens on two distinct panes with the controls on top. a. The “Navigation” pane (left) lists available folders, compatible applications and displays any shortcut created by the user. b. The “Browser” window shows the files and folders on the device corresponding to the element selected in the left pane. 3. In order to copy a file or folder simply drag and drop the element onto the desired location on DiskAid’s Browser, or click the top “Copy to Device” control, and then choose a file or folder and press “Open” to copy files or folders to selected location. File copy is also available from the contextual menu with a right click on any element 4. Conversely, in order to transfer documents from device to computer, drag and drop items from DiskAid’s Browser or click “Copy to PC/Mac”.

USER MANUAL The Use of Folders The following locations containing media folders are showing up automatically. • DiskAid Reserved for use of the device an external drive, the DiskAid folder provides storage space for any file type. • Camera Roll Used by the iPhone internal camera, this folder stores pictures and videos that have been captured with the device only and therefore is only showing if an iPhone is connected. • Photos Contains all pictures that have been synced using iTunes. Please note: DiskAid will not read the specific database used in this case, PicsAid will and therefore will be used to copy synced pictures from device to computer (for more details refer to PicsAid online documentation). • iPod Contains the iPod music that has been imported in iTunes. DiskAid can copy music, but not the corresponding track info such as albums, artists or song names, etc. TuneAid should be therefore used in order as to get all tracks data, including playlists, ratings and more (for more details refer to TuneAid online documentation). Voice memos Stores voice memos recorded with the iPhone internal microphone that can be read by QuickTime once copied to computer. • Media Generic folder for all media stored apart from application folders, most other folder are in fact already contained within the media folder itself. • Root (jailbreak only) If the connected device has been jailbroken, the root folder will show up in the Navigation pane. Please note that any changes are to be made with great care and should be only performed by developers or advanced users. As these folders are automatically added to the Navigation pane, they cannot be deleted nor created (unlike Shortcuts –see below). We do recommend the exclusive use of DiskAid folder for storage. Interact With Applications DiskAid will systematically list any application compatible with Apple File Sharing. The default location in the file system for an application is the documents folder (i.e. the exact location where the app is storing data). For advanced users and developers, this default location can be set to “Root” (i.e. the application’s root folder) by ticking “Show Root View for Apps” in DiskAid Preferences. FileApp and FileApp Pro will support a wide variety of files and formats, please refer to FileApp and FileApp Pro’s user guides for details. Please consult the developer to inquire about third party applications’ specific guidelines or guidance on file and format support. DigiDNA will not provide support or any kind of endorsement for third party applications.

DiskAid 4.0 – Getting Started Creating Shortcuts To create a Shortcut, drag any item (file or folder) from the Browser window on the right and drop it on the “Shortcut” folder icon on the left Navigation pane. Alternatively, simply right-click on the desired item and select “Add Shortcut”, the item will appear in the list. Shortcut can consist in any element of the iPhone OS that is viewable by DiskAid, regardless of its type, and can be even already present as part of a folder or application already in the Navigation pane. Transfer Recorded Voicemails to your Computer (jailbreak only) Start DiskAid and connect your iPhone, as your iPhone has a jailbreak, you will see the Root folder appear the Navigation pane, click it and then select the following folders, in order: • private • var • mobile • Library • Voicemail All recorded messages are saved under the .amr extension that can be read by QuickTime once saved on the computer. Copy Movies Captured with Cycorder to the Computer Movies stored within the Cycorder application can be easily retrieved within DiskAid: 1. Select ‘Media’ from the Navigation pane 2. Open the ‘Video’ folder 3. Select the desired video and click ‘Copy to folder’

FAQ Where is the Root folder, why isn’t it displayed? The real root is only available to devices that have a « Jailbreak » but it might not appear even if the device has been jailbroken. In this case it’s because afc service is missing on the device, and this can be fixed by simply downloading the afc2add package in Cydia on the device directly. Why can’t I create a folder in the left “Navigation” pane? Because this is not part of the file system really, the navigation pane lists all available locations for data exchange and file sharing by default plus shortcuts. Folders are to be created in the “Browser” pane on the right, then dragged to the shortcut icon on the “Navigation” pane, or added manually with a right-click.
